I'm playing in an adult league this year and I want to be able to knock some long balls. What type of exercises do you do to develop bat speed?

I played college ball a couple of years back. The best thing to strengthen your power is situps. If your lower back and abs are in good shape then you will have better bat speed. Make sure you take regular batting practice because you will have to adapt to the added muscle with AS. If you dont, it may hurt your swing.

Like td said, a strong trunk is key. Also try hang cleans, deadlifts, and squats. McGuire might have monster forearms, but most of his power comes from his back/ass/legs.

Wrist/forearm strenght is the most important thing. Bat speed and getting you hands through the strike zone, rolling the wrists. I agree that the mid section is an important area to hit also. If you dont do it already, line your middle knuckles up when you grip the bat. This makes you turn your wrist over through the strike zone. That snap increases bat speed. ------------------ "Catch a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime." |
