just incase no one answers this question under Nonstop's question on accutane I wanted to know if it is true that you should avoid sun and/or tanning beds when on accutane. Has anyone had a problem with this or did I hear this incorrectly? Peace JB

So Fonz do you think it would be possible to be on accutane but still be at the lake or at the pool but just use very high SPF sunblock and be O.K. JB

That shit sucks!!! I have been taking Tane at 40mg a day for the last month and a half. Granted my skin is alot less oily, but it is making me break out like crazy. Big nasty ones. I hope they dry out too. My back is dry as hell, my lips are cracked pieces of leather, my back is dry as shit and itchy, My face is broken out(it never was this bad!!). I decided to increase my does to 60 a day. Is this a good idea?? Should I taper back down when I start seeing some good signs?? I am suffering like crazy. If I knew it was this bad I would have passed!!!

Do NOT try to "get some sun" while on Accutane. Trust me. Anyone who says "aw, damn bro, just tough it out" has never done Accutane. You will burn and hurt like a son-of-a-bitch. Here is the most kickass write-up on Accutane there is:

From personal experience... ...one of my girlfriends at the time was on roaccutane for her skin. She started when we first met...after a month I was about to kick her ass out the door - one word - PIZZA! Fortunatrly, she had a few functions which compelled me to hang in there. It was worth it. By the end of the course her lips were smooth as silk (if you know what I mean ) and her skin was tops. Hang in there - don't overdose, keep out of the sun and be careful. You are taking a very dangerous drug. Here in Australia, you need to get governmental approval to be prescribed this stuff. It's good for a reason, hang in there and be careful with it. I guess it's like any other drug we talk about. If you don't know everything there is to know about it - DONT USE IT! Good Luck Blonski (bump for those who need to know)

Should I stay at 60 or go back to 40 a day?? I actually paid for all my Accutane!! My doc said NO WAY!! So I bought it from two seperate online places. It averaged about 4-6 a piece(40mg)(I got a bunch of 40 and 20 pills) I am sticking it out no matter what. This shit cost me more then any cycle I have done. So my lips will go back to normal?? This shit is really bringing me down. I don't feel like doing anything. I thought it was because I was all broken out, but I read that it causes depression. I started putting some Persagel(non-script) on all my breakouts. I sure hope this helps. I tried this because my back was really broken out after my last cycle. It doesn't look much better. I hope what all of you are saying is right. There better be light at the end of this tunnel!!

Accutane doesn't work for me. I'm serious. When I started it (40mg) it did have an effect: first I broke out pretty bad but after a month it subsided and my skin was perfect. Then it went to hell again, and has been like that for 3-4 months and I'm still on accutane (now 60mg). Lips are kinda dry, but that's all, no side effects... I even tried tanning and guess what, my skin wasn't sensitive at all. I wouldn't burn even when I did 30min sessions. So it must not be absorbing or something. I take accutane with breakfast and bed time snack...both of those contain flax oil so maybe that's somehow messing with accutane absorption I don't know. Sucks for me.

okay, yea, you will burn in the sun, but not in 5 minutes. and to the person that said that the people that say tough it out haven't tried it, well i'm saying tough it out and i have tried it. i live in hawaii, and i was on accutane and i would go to the beach about every other day. i would get red, but put on sun block. just stay safe and think down the road, not what you look like now. your skin will be great looking. trust me ------------------

Thanks for the help. Trust me to anyone who is thinking about it, think long and hard about it. My skin was fairly clear. I would get a zit once in a while. It was always oily though. The last cycle really fucked my back up, so I figured that I could stop two things with this miracle pill. Clear my back and permanently reduce my oiliness. Now I wish I never took any. I 'll just tough it out.

BTW - when I said something like "to the bros who say tough it out" etc etc etc .... What I meant was to the bros who say to "go ahead in the sun anyway, and its no big deal, and you just need to be tougher" - THOSE guys dont know what they are talking about. You CAN go in the sun if you use like a MEGA sunscreen/blocker, but forget about getting a tan or anything like that while on Accutane. Plus, if you have that BS attitude of "shit man, I can deal with a little sunburn" trust me, you can serioulsly screw yourself up. Read that post I made about Accutane to help yourself. Drink tons of water. Then drink more. Get moisturizer for your skin. Use it. Keep it with you (get a travel size like the ones chicks have in their purse). Get something for your lips, Blistex is best. Again, read that post I made which is linked above. Yes, your skin will get worse temporarily. What is happening is that the deeper, more problematic blemishes (cysts, which start way deep and take a long time to go away) are actually all ..... well, any that MAY have been in the process of forming (and they take a while) are now quickly going through their life cycle, so give it some time. It will clear up.

I am using Nuetrogena Non -Comodogenic facial creme. Good stuff. I have lip stuff everywhere. I am sticking it out. It's too late to stop now!

My doc wouldn't give me accutane unless I had monthly blood work. Instead I got minocycline which helps with bacteria in the skin and some retinA gel which drys the oil out of the skin.... .

Same deal with the sun and the gel you have big fella, best thing to do is jump on the net, search some med docs or even email the company for some info. Even if you didn't acquire the creams/tabs in a legit fashion, they should still give you the info. Remember Guys, don't take anything you don't know the pro's and con's of. A lot of these products contain cortisone and other nasties which with prolonged use serious can damage your system. Take it easy, these products work, but don't over do it or most importantly, once started, don't just stop. Most of these products require you to taper off. I hope this prompts some research guys.
