Bros this may be a stupid question, but here it goes. I have a dive trip set up (nothing crazy only 60' max) and about that time I will be on 500sos and 200deca per week. Is there any problems diving while on the juice?

Good question. There is data that shows people that lift weights on the same day that they dive increase their chances of DCS dramatically. Also, I would be concerned about the effect of anabolic steriods on nitrogen retention in the body. Personally, I wouldn't dive while on juice, especially because I've been bent before and I know how bad it sucks. I had an instructor screw up and run me out of air during my advanced training at 140 feet and I ended up in the decompression chamber for 5 1/2 hours. However, if I had to do it, I would use Nitrox 36% oxygen and not go past 40 feet.

Yeah, they should really emphasize in the SCUBA training programs that you can't lift weights on the day you dive. Unfortunately, the instructors almost never mention this crucial piece of information. I discovered it on my own through reading some studies on nitrogen off-gassing and decompression sickness.

I wouldn't think that steroids would effect nitrogen off-gassing too dramatically. While they do promote a positive nitrogen balance in muscle tissue I don't think that it would be the equivilant of a previous dive. Just be conservative in your dive times, perhaps use a NAUI dive table. Nitrox is always a good idea if you are certified and it is available. At 60' you can stay under for a really long time, especially on Nitrox so it really shouldn't be a problem. You can also do an extended safety stop if you are really concerned. Tall Dude, you are ultimately responsible for your air pressure even though a good instructor should check with his students periodically. What certification are you? It sounds like some of those shitty NASDS or SSI goons were training you. giantset [This message has been edited by giantset (edited March 27, 2001).]

It was Advanced PADI on rented equipment in the Caymans. After that experience, I bought my own stuff with Atomic regs, Spare Air backup, etc. I was new to diving at the time and both the instructor and the gauges were off.

I did my certificaton dives in the on Grand Cayman 9 years ago. Been going there and the lesser isles every year since. Couldnt count the number of dives but I'm sure many were during a period when I was on or just coming off. Never had a problem, although a greater majority of those dives were non-decompression. Did you do the Pedro's Castle drop?

Good question busta... Funny I came across this post because I would have asked the same question myself sometime this week. My stepdad and are diving in Montaray Bay this weekend and was curious as to the effects diving would have on my body.....I think I'm gonna call my doctor..I'll post the details if the call is informative... cheers
