couldn't hurt. i use something simple as a C,E, beta carotene, selenium supplement. if you're on gear you're training harder, heavier, and maybe more frequent. There's plenty of good research done on athletes advocating the use of the supps i mentioned above for improved recovery. i'm unfamiliar with z-mass. is it a zinc magnesium supp? | ||

In my opinion, Anti-oxidents are a must. I take CoQ10, 2-5 grams of Vit. C, 800IU Vit. E, linoleic acid, and especially Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's) Anytime the body metabolizes you have free radicals form. These are like exhaust after the fuel is burned in a car. They can cause aging and cancer and are found in folks who train HARD because we burn more fuel. They will keep you youthful longer and support your immune system. Because we cannot make esssential fatty acids we have to eat or supplement them. Research has shown that EFA's positively affect the body's internal functions and the immune system. EFA's are also used by the body to produce Prostoglandins which regulate cellular activity. Over 30 prostoglandins have been isolated, each with specific functions. These range from muscle tone to circulation to ensuring oxygen availabilty to the tissues. They have a short life span which is why the body needs abundant supplies of EFA's. The most notable EFA's are Omega3's and the Omega6. Omega3's are extremely important as they comprise 30% of certain membranes in nerve cells in the brain. Find these Omegas in cold water fish, flaxseed oils and linoleic acid.... which cannot be made by the body either....gotta consume. Omega6's affect the balance and equilibrium of the body.Usually these are plant derived and are found in Borage Oil and Primrose Oil. |
