Got a question for some health nuts out there. Last Sunday got blasted in my side be a OL. Well story is fractured a rib and torn a pec muscle. Thing is rib I am fine with. Pec on the other hand I'm not. Pain statred on the outside by the rib so did a bruise. Well form just trying to get up and down out of cars and such now the pain has moved all the way around to the other side of the pec and the bruise runs in a nice cicular pattern under and aroun the bottom of my pec. If not mistaken pectorial muscle fibre run horzontial don't they. They are not in a semi-circular pattern, or are they. Trying to figure out why the tear is spreading around the pec when I am doing no excersisee at this time but lifting myslef up every now and then. Any suggestions???

is the tear spreading, or is the bruise spreading? probably just the blood from the bruise being pulled down by gravity. when i tore two muscles in my thigh, the blood took the bruise all the way to my ankle. just the bodys way of trying to heal itself. sorry about your injury, hope you recover quickly. ------------------

I was thinking the gravity thing also, but the problem is it is starting up the other side of the pec also. Basiclly making a smile on my pec. You know one of these but turn around ). Seems that there tear is getting larger with me not doing any excersises. Doc has said it is a tear and MRI confirmed it. X-ray showed the fracture in the rib, but they did an MRI becasue they could understand why my pec was hurting as bad. Alright now for you real medical people. Cortisone breaks down muscle tissue right. Well after the tear finishes, should I get an injection to tear the muscle down to let it rebuild properlly?? Never realy understood how that stuff works in the body, but the logic is there. If not will the healing produce scar tissue that will never grow again in the pec region??

B Fold not to worry went out and even practiced today after taking the week off. Got hit a few times cringed up, but then went back to work. Pain is not an option, but death is. Did give the guy who hit me a nice rib shot back. Next thing I know hes in the huddle puking up some blood. Sorry about the kidney. Bad thing about semi-pro leagues. These people are out for blood. And that is what we are training for. No holding back during practice. Right now pain is coming back some but I will prevail. Good to hear from you. Sled pulling coming along??? Oh by the way if I ever run out of gas in your neck of the woods, I'll call you up and you cna come pull my Explorer to a gas station.

The reason the bruise and swelling is spreading is because the muscle itself is bleeding. Its not that the tear is spreading....that wont happen unless you get rihgt back into lifting and contact(which it seems you are doing). I tore my pec a while back..unless sugically repaired, it will be deformed permanently..those of us in sports dont have the option to sustain surgery which can deactivate you for much longer. Give it rest, the muscle repairs itself slow..starting with the stength of skin, than a tendon, and slowly youll be your old self again.

The pec minor travels vertically. However, like was said, the tear is probably not spreading, just the bruise. I have posted about my tear before. I have actually had bruising from my right pec (the torn one) to my left, dowm my right arm to my right ass cheek, all the way to my left side ass cheek. Some of the blood actually made it to my junk!!! NO KIDDING!!! If it is that bad then you really should insist on surgery. If not then increase the gear and keep the range of motion so as not to let scar tissue build up too readily. |
