I see alot of these EMS devices (Electronic Muscle Stimulator) around lately. Just wondering if they are worth useing at all? I know they are not going to take the place of hard workouts, just want to know if anyone has used one & what it did? Thanks!

I've never used one, or known anyone to use one for weight training, but I've seem people use them as part of physical therapy for a back injury.

Yeah, I am currently using one on my quad as part of physio. Had an accident that resulted in shattering my knee cap, surgery was required. My leg totally slimmed down to the size of my arm. It has strengthened up my weak leg but hasen't put any meat on there. You need the weights for that bro. It would be ok to condition already ripped muscles though. I had a friend that used one also for conditioning. He was basically in comp. shape and he said the machine used to give him a wicked pump. Hope that helps. Ciao

I think that 4Mike is thinking those weak ass dinky boxes that you carry on your leg. Those new big ass boxes are hammers. Wish I could afford one. It will not replace pushing iron but it can do some serious good. Those boxes can drive your muscles in ways that iron never can. But when you are really moving up it is a wierd feeling. Just to be sitting there and it fires off and your whole shoulder moves and you did not do a damn thing.

Man you could burn serious calories with that thing.

Actually Eramthgin, I use the machine that is at my local hospital - believe me it ain't on of those Doctor Ho pussy machines. You can adjust the current on the machine yourself. I haven't used it on any other body parts besides my right quad, but when the fucker is turned up I can barely stand it. It is indeed a very weird feeling. Your muscle contracts on its own. It is good to contract along with the machine as well, that way you are also contributing to the contraction. Like I said it would be good to use for conditioning and some tonning of the muscles. It won't get you ripped, 'cause your heart rate won't be high enough to burn fat or calories for that matter. Just like they say that posing and contracting hard in front of a mirror aids your physique - the EMS is kinda the same principle except you aren't doing all the work. If you are already lean you'll benefit more from the EMS as opposed to being obease. For me it provided and rebuilt some strength in a severlely damaged leg, but it isn't putting any size on for sure, no matter how high you crank it. You do need the weights for mass. What are your expectations from this thing anyway?
