I have come to the realization that the whole 5000 cal rule for bulking is bunk... I learned this the hard way...

For example my first 4 bulking cycles... I ate 5000-6000 cals a day... And i got BIG, but i also got bodyfat... I would average about a 10-15lbs LBM gain, 3-7 lbs water, 3-7 lbs fat.

When eating 3500 cals(500 cals over what i need to maintain muscle mass) I did not put on any fat and got 8lbs LBM gain so far(beginning of week 4)

Instead of trying p blow up---get fat and bloated and look bad... We should do cyles which promote just LBM gain... When it comes out in the end you will gain the same LBM...

For instance... If i start my cycle at 250lbs at 6% bf... I eat 5000 cals... 10 weeks later i am 275 at 10% bf.

Or

I start my cycle at 250lbs at 6% bf... I eat 3500cals...10 weeks later i am 265 at 6% bf....

The 2 are the same... Except in the second on, there is no fat gain

I believe everyone has to calculate their specific caloric needs. A high calorie diet does not apply for everyone. All those extra calories that you dont use will just go towards fat storage. For myself, I dont believe in loading up on extreme calories. I go with what I know about my body and what are my needs.

Just for the sake of being redundant, it is all about you. If it works for you, that is good enough reason in my book, no matter what anyone says.

I eat 6000Kcal while on cycles, and I'm 225lbs.
Wy don't I get fat?
BECAUSE I DON'T GO CRAZY ON THE CARBS!!!

Eat a 60%prot/30%carbs/10%fat diet while on
5000Kcal a day and you will gain more muscle and
much less fat. Protein intake makes or breaks a
good mass cycle in terms of muscle gain/fat gained.

Godspeed

I personally disagree with that many Kcals... I think you can make more quality gains off of a lower Kcal diet. Yes I understand that everyone is different, and some people need more Kcals than other, but this is just my opinion.

Fonz, If your consumming 5000Kcals a day, and your protein is 60% of your diet. That means your taking in 3000Kcals from protein a day right? Thats 750grams of protein in one day. If that works for you more power to you. I personally feel thats way to much protein for someone.
Late!

Rugby, I have been saying this all along. I think protein intake is far more important that calorie intake. I have eaten 5,000+ calories per day in the past with only eating around 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight, and I got really fat. True I got much bigger, but I added a ton of bodyfat. I decided to give the high protein diet a chance. I started eating around 350-400 grams per day. I haven't been on a cycle in months, yet I am bigger and stronger and leaner than I have ever been! And I'm only eating around 3,000 cals per day, yet I am way bigger than I've ever been.

I just don't buy this stuff yourself all day mentality. But, like everybody says, do what works for you.
