Thought some of you might like to take a look at a little article I was reading :- 'Inhaled insulin is showing promise as an alternative to injections, research suggest. Us researchers compared the efficacy of inhaled insulin with that of injections in a 12 week trial. Thirty five patients took inhaled insulin three times a day with a long lasting insulin at night. The control group continues with their normal insulin injections. There were no differences between the groups in HbA1c blood glucose profiles or in the occurence or severity in hypoglycaemia. Inhales insulin was well tolerated and pulmonary function was stable and did not differ between the groups. There were no serious adverse reactions.' From: Clinical (2001) Promising results for inhaled insulin. The Pharmaceutical Journal. 266, 7134, 179. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Julez (edited March 22, 2001).]

Interesting. I wonder if this method will incur the same problem of lipodystrophy as the injection.

It is good stuff, and a recent experiment with young children who's family history contains alot of Diabetic's. Which means they are prone to the disease as well, were given very small injections of Insulin daily in some, and every other day in others. The reasoning behind this was to decrease the stress on the body to produce Insulin, and increasing the odds of them not becoming Diabetic as well... I believe this study was done in Canada...?? Lipodystophy should`nt b a problem as it is not going anywhere near sub catenous tissue. The site of exchange is at the alveloi (sp.?). I think it will probably metered in a similiar way to glycerin tri nitrite spray. ------------------ |
