I really fucked up my shoulder yesterday when I was doing flat bench. For some reason it was giving me some pain but I did my workout anyways and the pain went away. When I woke up this morning, however, I could barely lift up my left arm. Has anybody experienced this before? Does anyone know what the problem might be? Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? Should I just stop working out for a while or what? Thanks a lot.

i can't do flat bench anymore because of shoulder pain. it originally happened b/c of this exercise, but then i went out a couple of months later when it wasn't sore and fucked it up in a fight. don't mess with your shoulders bro, only do exercise that don't create pain before you are warmed up (go light). let it heal for a couple of weeks and then get back into it slowly and lightly. it sucks, i feel your pain!!!!

sounds like the rotar cuff bro...apply ice right away after the workout and heat before bed and stay off the bench for a while... use dumbell presses theyre alot better on the shoulder.

i get that with bench also. you want to ice it asap. i found that natural pain formula from gnc works well with me. also you might want to try dmso gel 3 times a day for a week. it works well also for me.

I concur with the other two post. Don't mess with it as far as working out for at LEAST two weeks. Then definetely stay away from the bar on the flat bench. Use dumbells they are so much better and they don't screw up your shoulder like that damn bar bench press does. I went through this exact same thing about 3 months ago. And did alot of research and everybody said take two weeks off with no more bar benches. How old are you? You know after 30 we don't heal as fast as them young bucks do.

HAD THE SAME PROBLEM A FEW MONTHS BACK I STOPTED LIFTIN FOR ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE I WENT BACK TO THE GYM ,IT REALLY SUCKED BUT A SHOULDER INJURY IS NOT SOMETHING YOU TAKE FOR GRANTED REST MY FRIEND REST. WHEN YOU WORK YOU UPPER BODY YOUR SHOULDERS ARE INVOLVED IN ALMOST ALL OF THE EXCERCISE SO IT'S BETTER TO TAKE A LITTLE TIME OFF THEN TO FUCK IT UP FOR GOOD ALSO THE FLAT BENCH IS REALLY HARD ON MY DELTS TOO I STAY AWAY FROM IT LUKE

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll definatley take a couple of weeks off. I'll just concentrate on biceps/triceps, legs and torso for a while. I've heard a lot about dmso. My girlfriend used it when she sprained her ankle a while back. Does anybody know how dmso helps to aid injury recovery? Thanks again.

It helps best with tears, sprains and strains. I don't know if anyone knows exactly why it works but it definitely improves blood flow *without* causing swelling and, thereby, quickens healing. I'm sure it must be doing something more than that. The stuff helped me out so much after back surgery I had 17 years ago. For tears and the like, the stuff is like a miracle drug. But you'll smell bad if and when you use it, that's what I didn't like about it. hth

Where do you buy dmso. I've heard that you can get it at feed/vet stores. Can you also get it at GNC?

I seperated my shoulder military pressing a while back, and I am now back in the gym benching a whopping 80 pounds. 2 weeks ago, I could barely press the bar. The point is, it's really not something you wanna go through. You better do rotator cuff exercises. If you don't it's only gonna get worse.

Thats a real bitch@@ I messed up my shoulder doing the same flat bench exercise except i had kinna a stiff neck into the second warmup set BAM!!! it was like someone unplugged me momentarily. when i got up i couldn;t lift my right arm also 50 per cent of my bicep was pulled off(i felt it peeling but didn't hurt) a few days later i went to the DR.tests revealed i did indeed rip out my bicep.torn my shoulder delts also torn up some nerves hence the no movement in my arm....it took me over a yr to recover i started doing light plates..all kinds of shoulder movements light curls its been 5 yrs now i thought i would have to give up training except I"M NO QUITTER! last week my best in the flat bench press was 230 WHOOOOOO!!!!!!3 yrs ago i could barely do the bar-so take your time and heal fully so this won't happen again and specifically always warm up!!!!Before starting training.......PEACE

DMSO turns to 15% MSM once it penetraits the skin so it helps to lubricate the joint as well as increasing blood flow and reducing inflamation like icee hot does. I found that by using a narrower grip and bringing the bar down below my nipples in powerlifting style, my shoulders do not hurt as bad anymore. Also try locking your shoulder blades together and arching your back somewhat while keeping your ass on the bench. Flaring your elbows and lowering the bar to a high position on your chest will injure most people over time so don't do it. I had to learn this the hard way. giantset

It could be a multitude of different injuries, you need to give it serious rest, Ice and ibproben (sp) for inflamation. Is it brused, swollen or red. Did anything snap? If not you probably strained/sprained a tendon or ligment. If you workout, you may tear the tissue that you sprained. It happened to me and I had to stay out of the gym 8 weeks. So cool it and if you have insurance go see an orthopedic surgeon or sports med guy. Good luck and do not worry, you'll be back in the gym in no time, but right now take care of that shoulder. PS if you have any deca, it seems to help in healing.
