Everyone says that you're supposed to get around 1 or 2 grams of protein per pound of body weight. How the hell are you supposed to do that? I'm taking three 40 gram protein shakes a day (30 grams Whey, 10 grams from milk) and eating healthy meals. I'm about 178 and i know that I'm not taking in 2X's that in grams of protein every day. What's the deal? Will i still grow or do i need to start eating more? I don't how i can eat anymore. A personal trainer once told me that the human body can only absorbe about 40 grams of protein every 4 hour period and the rest is wasted. Is there any validity to this statement or was he just blowing some steam up my ass?

The human body can absorb more than that trainer said.I became much leaner and started to grow much faster on 2g per pound of bodywt. of protein per day.I eat 7 meals per day...3 food,4 shakes.I wish I could eat more actual food ,but my schedule doesn't permit. If you are serious about growing, get serious about eating PROTEIN. ------------------

I heard from a friend that competes naturally though that the amount of protein intake is measured on your LBM not total weight. What do you guys think.

There is no valididty to what the trainer told you. They think because they have a certificate that they can spout out any information they see fit. You need to spread it out throughout the day. 6-8 meals daily will do the trick. This allows for better nutrient absorbtion and keeps your metabolism stoked. I eat 60-65 grams a meal for 6 meals a day. That's 370 grams. Not really that hard but you need to take diet seriously and alot time and effort to prepare and consume meals.

It's really not as hard as it may seem. If you eat every 2.5-3 hours and take in 40-60g of protein you can easily hit well over 300g of protein. Sometimes I find myself eating when im not really hungry but thats all part of the game.. to get big, you gotta eat big.

I eat 3 meals and 3 to 4 50gram shakes. I get about 300 to 350 grams of protien. I believe you can absorb more like 75 grams a sitting. ------------------ "Catch a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime."

1-2 grams per pound of LBM is correct. It is easily possible to get the required protein intake. Split up your meals throughout the day into 5 or 6 small meals and supplement with protein powder. ------------------

If you seriously want to eat that much protein, invest in some whey powder. It's predigested, and you can swallow 20+ grams in small swig..... However..... the dogma that an athlete needs to consume 1-2 grams of protein per .lb of bodyweight COMPLETELY LACKS ONE SHRED OF CREDIBLE SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE! It is commmonly believed mythology in bodybuilding. It is religious dogma promoted by people with a financial interest in SELLING YOU PROTEIN-BASED products. Period. A single .lb of human muscle tissue contains only ~80grams of protein, and the average adult male 180llb/12%bf/5'8" can survive on less than 40grams a day. Athletes will need more....but not that much more. Not hunreds of grams more. NO ONE needs 370 grams of protein a day. PERIOD!

Forget "credible scientific evidence"Scientists once claimed that steroids don't build muscle!Real world evidence is where the proof is at and every BB I have worked w/ has grown better on 1.5-2 grams of protein per lb. of bodywt. ------------------

Bodyfx hit the nail on the head. When I was on a cycle, I was only eating around 1 gram per pound of bodyweight. Made some good gains. Surprisingly, after I came off the cycle, I upped the intake to 2.5 times per pound of bodyweight, and I'm now bigger and stronger than I was when taking test and dbol. I don't care what the scientist are saying, eating massive amounts of protein is your only ticket to getting as big as you possibly can. It works. -TG

You got to eat to grow. I am with Mass Monster I am consuming 400-500grams of protein a day. And I want to puke right now. The site of another can of Tuna could do it.

eat 9 cans of tuna a day. that will give u 300mg of protien. Now i dont suggest u actually eat only tuna, but if u cant think of anything to eat then crack open a can... 9 cans of tuna- $4.00 super weightgainer- $27.00 1000mg of test- $300.00 GETTING BIGGER & STRONGER- PRICELESS...

Im getting as many "g" as my body weight at least per day, aiming for 1.5 times. Curious though, if all those calculations are for LBM does that exclude skeletal weight and such? KrashRt

While off-cycle I eat 2-300g protein a day. On my latest cycle I was eating 700g of protein per day. And I grew like never before. Why? A massive rise in protein intake causes your body to increase protein synthesis and nitrogen retention causing more acquired lean mass. Try it. Increase your protein consumption by 50-100% in favour of less carbs/and a bit less fat and you WILL GROW. Godspeed |
