Not good to take for a long time (more than a few days). Might increase your bp, and also make you retain water. It will also make your face in particular look bloated for some reason. I'd stay from it if I were you, bro. Research it on the net, bro, there's lots out there.

Prednisone will make you fat and is catabolic to muscle. The shit is only good for quick relief to severe swelling. Its a corticosteroid

Sorry you have lupus bud. It is a horrible disease, and the treatment is worst than the disease. My inlaw has it, she is 50 and has the bones of a 80 year old. She will die from the prednisone before the disease kills her. All treatments of lupus are immune system suppresants, they shut down the immune system. They do this because lupus causes the bodies own immune systems to attack its on systems, specifically the connective tissue of the body. Prednisone has the follwoing sided effects: fat gain, muscle wasting, bone deterioration, organ destruction, possible hump in the back, round face(called moon face), also you can catch colds and such 10 x easier do the fact that the immune system shuts down, you have to be careful when you are sick and go immediatelly to the doc. It is horrrible medication. Good news is that in new studies, the use of growth hormone, and anabolic steriods can fight the bone and muscle loss almost to a stand still. You have to find an aggressive doc that will try new treatments like this. My inlaws doc would not agree to try it even after I told him about. Doctors can be close minded. I told him, " why not try it, the medicine is killing her anyway, what does she have to loose." From what I have read, within the next 5 years they will new treatments, that will be alot better. Hell, right now they are not even sure what causes the disease. Good luck. Be aggressive in your own treatment. sincerely osiris

One question Gett'Bigger: Do you have systemic or localized? Systemic is FAR more serious and is very hard to treat. The only treatment seems to be corticosteroids due to the fact they decrease the inflammation. However, my sister was diagnosed with a localized version 2 years back and the doctor wanted to put her on prednisone. I told her to say no and I went to work. Took me 2 months to research the topic, but there is a much better treatment for localized Lupus(and possibly systemic) its DHEA. It has been show to reverse the symptoms in 60% of the users. I highly doubt your doctor knows this, since one of the pharmaceutical houses is going to come out with a treatment for Lupus which is like 99.9% like DHEA just 10 times more expensive. My recommendation is to buy the DHEA, and take 100mg/day(2 50mg doses morning and night), and after 1 month you should notice a very noticeable improvement. Ditch the prednisone, it WILL GIVE YOU ARTHRITIS if used continously, not to mention make you bloated, fatter, and with less muscle due to its catabolic nature. Hope this has helped.... Godspeed

thanks guys i may have systemic lupus. i go back again for retesting in about three weeks. i believe that is the only kind that is detectable with a blood test. the doc told me that some times there are false positives. i am hoping that this is the case. these past few months havent been good. i recently lost my mother and now this. im only 23, why and the fuck is this shit happening all at the same time. i guess when it rains, it pours. if i was to use steriods to combat this. what do you recommend. my doc seems to have my best wishes at heart. i will not rot away and get all sucked up. ill just give him an ultimatum, either he prescribes it or ill get it myself. i think he will feel better knowing that the shit he prescribes is good. what do you recommend me to try and use if this is the case, thanks for your concern.

Sorry to hear about your Lupus. Prednisone is a very horrible drug, it's too bad doctors us it at all. There is an alternative you may be interested in, however, I have some information on a drug called Cortef. It's a natural cortisol, that when properly doesn't cause the same side effects as prednisone. It's just as powerful, and theoretically, you can use indefinetely. Email me if you would like some more info. [This message has been edited by Mike Oxbig (edited March 20, 2001).]

GettnBIG...Don't worry bro until you find out if it's systemic or discoid Lupus. I know... I have Lupus also (discoid).Discoid only effects the skin and is not present in the blood unlike systemic which is a more serious condition. If you only have discoid, do NOT let them prescribe prednizone for you. You tell them to give you Hydroxychloro which is a anti-malaria drug which is quite effective with much lower sides. If its systemic, keep your chin up, a highly effective drug has passed FDA approval and will be released this spring. :0)

The study I saw was along time ago, but I believe the used deca durabolin in small doses, combined with small doses of GH. They wanted something mild, because the prednisone was also toxic on the liver. They have a site online for Lupus. Hit your search engine, and go to work researching. You will be your best doctor after doing your own research.

Hey what kind of symptoms r u suffering with? If they are not really bad you probably don't need prednisone all the time, only if you have symptom flare up. Prednisone is just a treatment, doesn't change the condition. You're gonna have to keep healthy, no cigareetes, alcohol, drugs, lighter exercise, sleep sleep sleep to keep it under control.

thanks for the support guys. it seems that i have systemic lupus. i have been suffering from aching joints and i also had the facial rash associated with lupus. last year i had a bad back problem and took care of it with anti inflamitory drugs, celebrex. at the time i thought that i was just aching, i didnt know the extent of it. lets keep this one going. it is good to know that there are so many of you out there that have knowledge about this. also what was the drug that will be coming out in the spring.
