I have read in a few magazines lately that eating starchy foods for carbs (potatoes, pasta etc)with protein reduces the effectivness of the protein. Anybody know anything about this? True False?

Potatoes do contain some protease inhibitors that will reduce digestion of proteins. This is not the same as stopping protein synthesis, which occurs in the body, not in the intestines. Also, I think that I read that these inhibitors are destroyed by cooking, so I doubt that we have anything to worry about.
