i guess what im really asking is wtf happened so long ago to prod the u.s govt to make a.s. illegal in our country, and how did this huge smear campaign get started? you know the one, that all bodybuilders are just gear heads and they are just bad people in general if they DO use gear? after all we give fitness a bad name right? how did all of this get started in the first place? ------------------

George Bush signed the law that made steroids what they are today. Early 90's I believe.

1990 The Honorable Joseph Biden, Senator, introduces the Steroids Trafficking Act which reclassifies anabolic steroids as narcotics (Schedule III substances under the Uniform Controlled Substances Act). This change was made against the advice of the AMA because drug companies wouldn't cooperate with an investigation to determine how much of the AS manfactured was being diverted to the black market (athletes). The result of which was the 3 copy chain of custody form that was already being used for the distribution of CIII drugs . [This message has been edited by BigWh1tey (edited March 17, 2001).]

Here you go guys! Here is some info on this subject! Congress promulgated the Anabolic Steroids Control Act of 1990, criminalizing the non-medical use of anabolic steroids for everybody. Check out this site it has alot of info!! www.Steroidlaw.com

Supposedly, It was young kids in high school abusing AS that brought it to the publics attention.

The reason is because Russia and the Eastern European countries were winning all of the medals in the Olympics (because their athletes were on juice). The US had a choice. They could either juice up their own athletes or demonize steroids. Thanks to the US steroids are now known as "cheating". God Bless the USA!!

scsu nice work man, that stuff is beautiful...... answers a lot of stuff. ------------------

The contoversy started with the 1950 olympics. It was discovered that Russian and other eastern block athletes were using a substance know as anabolic steriods. The female athletes had to be medically examed for their sex. Some of the men had taken so much juice their prostrates were 20 times normal size and they needed catheters to urinate. Anyway it was subsquentially banned by the olympics. ONCE it was banned everyone wanted it and the federal government declared it a class two substance requiring a prescribtion. And yes I'm that old and just started my second cycle.

2 thick ive been called a cheater and mr fake muscle to my face, mostly by people who are basically pencil necks! people just have no idea about this at all. i think what pisses me off the most is that they dont bother to educate themselves first, they just shoot off their mouths.this is like the ultimate smear to me. ------------------
Pro Bodybuilder Posts: 401 |
In my opinion it's Lyle Alzedo and his Cancer bull shit that was never proved. And about the pencil neck thing. I feel you on that one. I've heard the same bull shit over and over again. The one thing people doesn't understand is that steroids don't just make muscles for us like superman or some stupid shit. We have to have the right diets, the right amount of lifting and the right amount of recovery. If some little pencil necked nerd spent half the time in the gym as we do then they'd acutally have so girth around their scrawny necks. sorry, got worked up on that one. ------------------ * Infinate dreams, I can't deny them.

Olympic athlethes have been juicing for some time now----but it has been the US media that has started the scandal---not the athlethes, they will always juice and do hgh, do to the fact that their testing is not up to the standards of the docs who are prescribing these professionals these hormones

Whatever the case was it is bullshit1 I alway thought it was because of high school kids abusing AS, but I am sure there were several reasons! I will bump for a new senator! Mass Monster
Amateur Bodybuilder Posts: 109 |
Yes, the reasons I've always heard was that dumb kids all over the nation were juicing to play football, etc. Now we have more juice coming out, except more and more of it is fake. Basically, they made shit worse than it was to begin with. I love American, but good lord, the government creates its own problems. How many Gold's or Powerhouse's do you see in Mexico? How many pro bb's came out of Mexico where all that shit is legal. Not too many, and I can't think of a one. And if you ask a kid in middle school or highscool if they've ever taken any steroids 50% will always say yes because they think any fucking supplement (creatine, amino acid pills, andro, etc.) are all steroids. Idiot "experts" take this false data and make a fake epidemic out of it. Shit my dad thought my bottle of creatine was steroids when creatine first hit the market. If adults think OTC supps are gear, then what do researchers expect kids to think. Are they really a credible source for polls? I hate this whole war on drugs bullshit. It's the blind leading the blind. Why is this drug bad? Well, because that guy who's an expert said so, and some expert told that guy, and so on and so on. All the laws do are put good people in jail. Does anybody actually think throwing some tax-paying otherwise law abiding citizen in jail, ruining his/her career family life, etc. is beneficial in anyway. Would a Congressman or judge, lawyer, DA, etc. actually think theie child should go to jail for possessing an illegal substance. Of course not. This whole controversy gets me pissed off. Well, that's enough of a rant for one day. later.

does anyone on this board think steroids will be LEAGAL in the U.S anytime soon. of course not. instead of all of us complaining about steroids being illigal, why dont we try to do something about it. im not saying it will work but at least we can say we tried. somewhere on the internet i read that some group of people were going to try to get on talk shows, radio shows, talk to govt. officals and even have clinacals where people could get very educated about them and possibly get them prescribed if they were under their care and bloodwork was done on a 2 week basis and other stuff. i think we should all be more smarter about are use and who people give it to. example-some 14 year old kid who wants to be like flex in some magazine and make a couple bucks off of. this is just how i feel...............
Pro Bodybuilder Posts: 309 |
What pisses me off the most is that the American medical association didn't want them to make AAS a sheduled drug. The medical community was against the whole thing. Science doesn't make the laws! Some suit sitting at an office desk that doesn't know one thing about the human body, or pharmaocolgy made this whole campaing up. Not the Dr's, or the athletes who use, need, and know what it does for them. And the fucking media blows everything out of proportion. The whole thing sucks and pisses me off!!!!!!!!!!!! (but they would just say it is "roid rage")
