I got the results of a blood test back today, and it showed that my serum creatinine was 1.5. This is on the high normal end of the spectrum. My BUN ( blood urea nitrogen ) was o.k. I do not use any type of creatine product, but do eat high protein. Anyone else ever see similar results from blood work?

High serum creatinine levels are just indicative
of muscle damage from excercise. Nothing
really bad about it. And creatinine has nothing
to do with taking creatine.(I got a good laugh
out of that one......LOL)
Sorry, its been a humourless day at Uni.

Godspeed

Fonz, I thought high creatinine also had something to do with the kidneys being under stress? Because kidney funtion can be assessed by measuring the concentration of substances in the blood (such as UREA and CREATININE) normaly eliminated from the body via healthy kidneys and these blood test can assess the kidney funtion by comparing the amount of creatinine in the blood to the amount in the urine. But if it is just alittle high I wouldn't worry

Creatinine is, in fact, used as an indicator of kidney stress. It is also indicitive of muscle trauma, as Fonz said.

Thanks for the replies. Creatinine is the broken down form of creatine; hence, I would assume that it is not impossible for creatine supplements to play a part in high creatinine serum. Regardless, I would like to hear from anyone (if you are out there) who may have had a similar experience.

Yep. I had high creatinine levels on my last blood test. They didn't test for BUN at that point. He decided to do another test with BUN and creatinine included. The creatinine came back high again, although on the higher side of normal. BUN was o.k. so he figured there was no underlying problem. I was later told by a chiropractor that high creatinine levels were common for bodybuilders.

How do you guys go about getting these tests? At the docs? And what would you give as the reason for wanting the tests?
