Ribose is just a simple sugar.
The theory goes that increasing
ribose will increase the amount
of adenosine available.
Then adenosine ges converted
to adenosine phosphate, then
to adenosine di-phosphate(ADP),
and then by the by the addition of
another phosphate to adenosine
tri-phosphate(ATP), which is the
energy currency of the cell.
One big flaw here. When you excercise a
lot ATP levels fall and the phosphate
that shoud be added to the ADP to make
ATP is not added because phosphate production
gets seriously curbed. There is nothing ribose
can do about this. Therefore ribose by itself
is a complete and utter waste.
Now, lets imagie a compound that can
up-regulate phosphate production so that
ATP gets produced from ADP. Well guess
what, Creatine does exactly that.
So, what I'm trying to say is that Creatine+
ribose is synergistic. While ribose increases
the level of adenosine, creatine makes sure that
the extra adenosine gets converted to ATP by
the increase in phosphate production.
This is a rough sketch BTW.
Hope this helped.....

Godspeed

thanks fonz, i'm always taking 5-10 gms of creatine in my post workout shake, so do you think using ribose with creatine (along with ala and glutamine) is worth the money?

I have to second blackdream. But if you
still want to go ahead and do it:

1. 10g Creatine+75g carbs+3g Ribose+200mg
ALA+10g Glutamine should do the trick.

Godspeed

Fener,
Don't know much about ribose, but it has been shown(see ref. bellow) that adding 1g of glucose to your creatine intake can greatly increase its uptake into the muscle.
