I just finish reading Bodyopus by Dan Duchaine. He talks a lot about the anabolic superiority of a zero carb diet, and how ketones can be used as a energy source. So, I wondered why I have never seen some one bulking while on zero carb.. Any opinions??

quote: YESS, finally, my area of expertise. While on a mass CKD you will gain less fat per pound of muscle gained, that is a scientific fact. I've persobally done a 10-week mass CKD and the results were impressive. I weighed 169lbs, and went to 189lbs after 10 weeks with only a 4lb fat gain. I was eating 6000Kcal of fat and protein per day w/ a carb-up on weekends. First week I vomited after 3 days due to the food choices, but after a week I got used to it. BTW, Duchaines Bodyopus is the best book I have ever read. The section on the 50 top drugs is great, not to mention the sections on diuretics and blood osmotics, they are hugely enlightenning!!!!! I am intersted in trying that next bulk cycle. One thing I drink a shit load of milk and milk has some carbs in it is that ok. Aslo what kinds of food do you eat was thinking whole milk, steak, cheese, eggs stuff like that? seems like a lot of calories to get with just fat and protine.

quote: GLP Bodyopus is SUPER strict. Its basically a 75% at/25% diet for 5 days with 0 carbs(well , less than 20g /day) followed by a 2 day carb-up. The crazy part is that on the first day of your carb-up you have to consume 16g/Kg of # carbs. Thats right 16g/Kg!!!! When I weighed 170lbs, I had to eat 1220g of carbs in 24 hours!!! Needless o say I was sooooo stuffed!!!!! But it DID work.... Godspeed

Fonz-- is eating that many carbs on the weekend only if you are bulking? What about bodyopus for losing weight (maintaining muscle, losing fat)??? Are the reccomendations different in that case?

That is an amazing book. I have done bodyopus on several occasions for roughly 6-8 weeks at a time. I got real lean and don't think I lost much muscle at all. I am not sure if I could gain weight on it though. It is super strict and I could not consume enough carbs on the weekend. You have to eat so much, but I still loved it and will do it againl.

On the carb up you have to eat carbs every two hours, even on the night!!!

BODYOPUS For BULKING: 1. Calories at 25+ per pound of bodyweight. 2. 75% fat/25% prot ratio For dieting: 1. Calories at 10 times per pound. 2. 75% fat/25% prot ratio The Carb-up is exactly the same for bulking and dieting. Fri-Sat: First 24 hours: 1. 16g of Carbs per kilogram of lean body mass. Sat-Sun: Second 24 hours: 1. 6g of carbs per kilogram of lean body mass. THIS IS THE BEST DIET I HAVE HAD THE HONOUR OF TRYING. I THINK DUCHAINE WAS AN ABSOLUTE GENIUS AS THIS DIET WORKS WITHOUT THE AID OF ANY ENHANCEMENT. GOD REST HIS SOUL. Godspeed
