I HAVE A FAST METABOLISM. IN TRYING TO GAIN WEIGH I THINK I SHOULD JUST EAT ANYTHING AS LONG AS I AM GETTING 200 GRAMS OF PROTEIN A DAY, AND ENOUGH CARBS. WHY SO MUCH EMPHASIS ON EATING CLEAN? WHY NOT GAIN SOME FAT AND LOSE THE FAT LATER? I THINK IT IS MUCH EASIER THAT WAY. DOES ANYBODY AGREE?

I agree I would eat as long as you don't eat just junk,I was not so lucky 11 weeks after cholesterol is still high and that was just eating some junk hamburgers no sweets.

In my case I sacrificed a "gut" to get big, but its coming off nicely now. I had a very hard time gaining mass while trying to stay "slender". I definitely stayed away from junk like candy and sweets, but ate alot of pizza and burgers, anything to get the pounds on, now its all paying off as its easy to lose the weight with my naturally fast metb., and I'm keeping real good muscle size. I'm talking about 7 years of bulking, you'd think I'd be monstrous, but I didnt ever hit gear any higher than 500mgs/wk,and still make great gains, lifting took me from 145lbs to 252lbs at my heaviest. Which is a pretty good difference.

Any advice on cardio? | ||
Elite Bodybuilder Posts: 864 |
I don't believe in fat free diets! But I would not gobble down the fat strip from a prime rib either. Animal fat can cause more problems then it is worth. No need to eat it when you can avoid it. Cut that fat stip off. Feed it to your mother in law. Clog her arteries.

Do not do cardio if you are on a bulking cycle. It does not matter where the calories come from. The goal during bulking is to meet the enegry needs of the cell so that muscle protein synthesis can proceed. If you cut calories, you can still make some gains but they will slow to a crawl. This is why guys dont "blow up" on keto diets. I recomend high protein, high carb, low fat for bulking. Andy

TY andy. I figure that cardio would be counterproductive considering the pump you get from those good calories whether your gearing or not.Im a newbie on here but im learning alot ------------------

I dont mean to waste space but how long do guys normally bulk for.Do you have a set time or do you go by bodyfat measurement.

I'd personally stay away from simple sugars and sweets, especially corn syrup like soda and candy bars. Other than that, IMO, eat smart, but it doesn't have to be totally clean. Don't go to fast food joints, but eating red meat and stuff is a part of bulking up. However, it is important to note that the "cleaner" you eat, the better the gains overall will probably be, as long as you are getting sufficeint calories from sufficient sources, as per Mustang, Andy, and Eram. Just my .02 cents worth. Hawk

I totally disagree with the "don't do cardio during a bulking cycle" advice. When you are on gear, your muscles are not going to be in a catabolic state PERIOD, especially from 35-45 minutes of moderate cardio 3-5 times a week. I do my cardio right after intense workouts EOD....my calories I have eaten have all been burned during my workout, so what's the cardio going to burn...muscle? I DONT THINK SO!! RICO

I totally agree with Rico! Using AS will elevate your cholesterol and fatty acids in the blood and thus put an extra strain on your cardiovascular system. Therefor, it is actually EVEN MORE important to do a bit of cardio while using gear. Remember, we are not talking about high intensity, just a moderate 30-45 min. cycling on a stationary bicycle 2-3 times a week. This WILL help in keeping your cardiovascular system cleaner AND keeping your metabolism high whilst SIMULTANEOUSLY NOT interfeering with your gains since your eating a lot anyway. Crom

I prefer to eat clean year around. I have never had any problems bulking, so eating clean makes the most sense to me. You should be patient and experiment with your diet to find out what works best for you. If eating anything you want helps you pack on size, go for it. However, if you start looking smooth and bloated clean up your diet a little until you achieve an acceptable appearance. Also, if you incorporate insulin into your cycle, eating clean becomes much more important while the insulin is active.

quote: WOW.... How weak is you weight workout?? Do you take 20 minute breaks between sets? I for one can tell you that my heart rate gets as high as 180 BPM during my lifting. That's cardio, isnt it? Look, I never said "doing cardio during bulking burns muscle.." I simply said that doing cardio burns calories and can put the cell in a low energy state. This does not promote muscle growth. What is so hard to understand about that? It seems real logical to me that eating extra calories and then doing cardio (low intensity, high intensity, whatever) is counter productive.

Calories are calories. You will not get better gains from 5000 kcal of "clean" food than you will from 5000 kcal from Burger King so long as your protein needs are met. Andy

quote: Not "blow-up" while on a mass keto diet. I disagree. You should try a Mass CKD (cyclical ketogenic diet). Compared to normal carb diets, you will put on less fat per pound of muscle built. Godspeed

I ate fat as hell on my last bulker, I did put on some fat but like you i have a fast metabolism. Next time I will eat the same but no fatty foods after 6-8 pm to try and slow the fat gain a bit. I dont mean donuts and stuff, but redmeat/chicken as long as it had the protein in there I wouldnt care how it came (burgers ect..) ------------------ For a good time click here: Search and Profiles (300Kleens Board)

I think that evryone does it differently. When I'm bulking, I eat everything in sight. I don't worry about anything at all. I don't go hog wild on cup cakes the entire day, but it isn't out of the norm for me to eat three double Whoppers fro Burger King along with four more complete meals, not including inbetween meal snacks per day. Have you read about Lee Priest in the off-season? There is some sloppy ass reading. As long as you get a huge number of calories and protein everyday, don't worry about it. The reason alot of people have tough times getting HUGE is because they try to stay somewhat lean while they're getting big, because they're afraid of not looking good for girls, or whatever. Get as big as possible, then go on a great cutting cycle with gear, stay on a tight, stable diet and keep strong on your cardio, and you WILL get as big and LEAN as possible. THe getting big part should be fun, alot of fun. The dieting back down is what sucks, to me anyway. Good luck on your decision.

Harry Nuts, PLEASE don't try to post a bunch of crap for the purpose of having a larger number of posts. The number of posts mean nothing. I don't know why anuyone would care how many posts they have. Just because you acquire a different title after so many posts doesn't mean shit. You can have 25 posts and be twenty times more educated then someone here that has 1500 posts. My favorite board that I belong to doesn't do this. They give you a choice of the title under your name. THats right, you can make up your own name. Maybe thats what Elite should. It would stop people from 'bumping' and 'posting dumb things just to get their posts up.

I find that the cleaner I eat, the more I can eat. For example, if I eat rice and tuna, it flows through me in no time and I can eat evey two hours. If I eat dirty, I will be stuffed for hours. Just personal. |
