If it has happened recently you could have a lot of healing left and feeling to be coming back. That's because nerves definitely can become tramatized as well as damaged permanently. What I'm trying to say is give it time and you'll get a lot more back than you can see right now. I herniated a disk in my lower back. I had to live with it for two years before they operated on me and took out the pieces that were irritation my spinal cord. I had numbness in both of my my legs that I don't have now. I'm not saying it regenerated -- as others have stated that's impossible -- but what I am saying is that a lot of that numbness was not due to 'dead' nerves but rather tramatized ones. So look up and have hope. Time heals a lot, bro. BTW, I've heard of a study recently of treating recently severed nerves with something called macrophage. It apparently will completely heal severed nerves if treated quick enough -- within hours. Just a FYI.

hmmmmm....I just found this article about 20 minutes ago, I don't know if it will totally answer your question or not, but I will post it anyway. http://link.springer.de/link/service/journals/00726/bibs/0019001/00190363.htm

First of all, nerves do regenerate. The only problem is, is that they take a long ass time to do so. The problem that occurs is that if you nerve is damaged for too long, the muscle will start to athrophy, but not the same type that occurs from disuse, fibrous scar tissue fills in where the muscle once was. This is non-contractile tissue, just takes up space. Just to put into perspective, it takes about 1 month for a nerve to rengerate 1-2mm of length. When there is nerve damage, and I am assuming that you have a severed nerve, due to surgey, the axon of the nerve dies, and then needs to be regerated. The healing process isn't as easy as a cut in the skin. Think of having a cut on your wrist, and in order to heal all the skin on your arm must first die, and then be removed, then regeneration occurs. This is how the nerves heal themselves. The axon's of nerves in the leg are very long.
As for nerve regeration, there has been one drug suggested to me for my nerve damage, and it is the drug Hydragen (i know this is spelled wrong, I will look up correct spelling and e-mail to you). It's medical application for improving memory has just been approved in the US. Studies have been done with it, to help patients with spinal cord injuries. It has been show to be successful. Unfortantely, I haven't found any studies besides the ones on the central nerves system. You have peripheal nerve damage, so who knows how well it will work. I haven't tried it yet, but figure it is worth a shot. What do you have to lose? It may make you a bit smarter.

GH won't help too much with nerve regernartion. I don't think that there are that many hormone recptors on nerves. I am not sure how the blood supply works to the nerves but I know that it is diffrent than other tissues of the body. That is why diseases of the nervous system are not fought off by the immune system because the white blood cells don't make it too the neroun. Hormones that travel in the blood might have some similar problem.

My best advice for you is too go out and get therapy done on the injured leg. Go buy one of those electic stim units, and use it everday to prevent that scar tissue from forming in the muscle. From increased activity you will send more electricity to the injured nerve, speeding up the healing process, and you don't want the server athrophy to set in!

As I posted before, nerve cells do not replicate once you are past your teens.

There can be new pathways of existing nerves that are established and utilized for sending signals, but GH is highly unlikely to influence this process.

TALL DUDE maybe so directly, but im hearing the GH helps in preventing the build-up of scar tissue which prevents nerves from healing--correct???

also its not just nerve damage i have, theres rehab needed in my foot too--muscles, tendons need alot of repair....
...so im looking at GH as just another thing or step to help me w/ the whole recovery process......

and im thinking it will be beneficial... just dont know if i should be taking it now(resting + rehab)or wait to where im lifting w/ the weights again to build up...???

JONROCKS thanx for your reply, this is what i was hoping for....

Your are correct: in general, I think that most people would agree GH supplementation is a good thing in general if not overdone.

However, getting a doctor to prescribe it and an insurance company to pay for it is going to be somewhat challenging when there is not a clearly proven benefit.

RRanger....i say go for it.....will probably reduce healing time by 1/2 as far as soft tissue repair....the shorter time taken to repair soft tissue, the less scar tissue you will generate. your thinking is right on the money. so go and get some GH
