Does anyone get tired of hearing that tall guys cannot do squats correctly? I am not super tall, but tall enough (6'3" 235lbs) and have no problem getting past parallel with squats, I see guys doing half squats and they say they are too tall to get down any further. Tall guys speak up....

I get to right at about parallel. Half squats are for guys that want to put way more weight on the bar than they are capable of squatting. I saw this fat guy with 495 on there and he was moving the weight 6 inches up and down at best. What is the point of that? I don't get it. He'd have been better off putting 225 on there and putting his ass on the floor.

Yeah,i'm around 6ft 3",and the worst squatters i have ever seen are the little midgets who squat for about a quarter of the movement with shit form and ultimately have shit legs.

I'm 6'3" and I box squat an inch below parallel. No problem. The people that say squats are bad for your knees are the ones that let their shins go forward and quarter squat. ------------------

I messed up my knees pretty good doing squats, but it was mostly due to my bad technique. Unfortunately, even though it's been several years I still get tendonitis really easily in my knees if I go heavy.

I'm 6ft 3" and I have the shittiest lower back in history. I do make it to an inch above parallel. If I can do it almost anybody can. I think it's an ego thing for most guys. They'd rather have four plates on the bar and go down six inches instead of 225lbs. for 10-20 reps with good forum. I don't give a shit. Let them keep making excuses about being too tall and they can just keep walking around with bird legs. ------------------

I squat a little past parallel and I am 6'2" but the hardest part for me is to keep my back from doing most of the work. I tried using a five pound plate under each heel and it helps a little bit, but I want my legs doing all the work and not my back. I will start doing front squats once I can learn do to them correctly.

I'm 6'4, 210 and I used to do squats ass to the floor. I hated them so much. Now I do it to parallel to the floor. I still hate them but not as much and I feel doing it to parallel gives me a better workout than doing it ass to the floor.

I'm 6'3" and have long legs and a short torso. When I do squats my knees always go past my toes as it is physically impossible for me to keep them from it. I have switched to front squats with a 10 lb plate under my heels and this helps but my knees still hurt like a bitch. I am dieting so I started using light weight with lower reps and it seems to make my knees hurt worse then going heavy. I was doing 225 on front squats, hoping that the light weight would allow my knees to heal but they just got worse. Last workout I did most of my front squats with 135 and I couldn't even feel my quads working but the pain in my knees was increadible. I always break parallel but have stopped going all the way to my heels. Am I doomed to always have knee pain when squatting or is there something I can do? giantset

it made a difference for me. I squatted for shit. I pitched forward too much. I did really like the safety squat bar though-it was a natural movement for me. ------------------

I'm 6'5", but have a long torso and short legs. Squatting has always come very easy to me, I believe because of my body structure. My training partner however, was the opposite. He was shorter, but had very long legs, so to get his arse down without falling forward, he would do wide stance on any heavy work. Sometimes he would do higher reps with lighter weight with a narrow stance, but he'd put blocks under his heels. That seemed to work fairly well.

I am 6'2", 290lbs, have always squatted butt to the floor. I am now focusing on zearcher squats and do them from the bottom position on the power rack...at knee level. Go deep...it is better for your knees. B True

I'm 6'1" and have recently started using some Allzner orthotics (arch supports). They raise my heels about a 1/16th inch, center of the arch about 1/2", but I feel much more stable down to parallel and help me keep my lower back out of the movement. They're $60 but after some mishaps squatting they give me confidence that I can control the bar and save my back. LittleJon

Tall guys speak up.... That's bullshit. Anybody who gets bent-over needs to do a month of front squats to the ground. They'll turn you into a squatting fucking expert. (6'2" 300lb)

>>i used to go half squats but changed up and go parallel now Geez, you guys were saying "half squat," and I thought that was parallel!

6'2 here. I get parralel no problem but any lower than that and I'll tip over backwards. Not so much the height but the length of ones legs that determines squating technique. I have loooong legs and a short torso so my center of gravity is quite high. I can't even crouch down without a bar and plates on my back let alone with a load on my shoulders. Arnold had this same problem. That's why he use a board under his heels...so he didn't tip over backwards. [This message has been edited by Beezers (edited March 10, 2001).]

i'm 6'5, I finally swallowed my ego and dropped the weight and go little lower than parallel. Such a better workout now, I do'nt know about ass to the floor tho, I see some little guys touch their calves with the back of their legs, if i did that now with no weight i'd never be able to get up. |
