How long should it take an individual to get into ketosis? This is natural without using insulin or anything else.

If you follow the ketogenic diet outlined in Elite Fitness, you should be in ketosis by Wednesday pm (assuming you start on Monday).

I was at 75-80% fat, 20% protein.

Anyways, you can get into Ketosis in 24-36hrs
without the addition of ANY SUPPS.
How, might you say, well like this:

A meals ketogenic ratio is defined as the ration
of fats to prot+carb, which is:

Keto ratio= Fat(g)
----------------------
Prot(g)+Carb(g)

A normal Keto diet(Bodyopus) has a keto ratio
of 1.5:1 and gets you into ketosis in 36-48 hours.
Hpwever, if you jack up the keto ratio to 3:1 by
eating nuts only, you can easily get into ketosis in
24-36 hours.

Godspeed

If you perform aerobics and weight training, you could be in ketosis by Tuesday night. I was usually showing mild ketones by 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday night (starting Monday morning).

Maybe I should know this by now, but how do you test to see if your in ketosis? Is there a blood test or something? And what would such a test reveal in your blood? Low blood sugar?

Ultimately, the deciding factor is how long it takes the LIVER to deplete its self from glycogen. This process is speed-up by doing cardio. I like to do 2 30 minute cardio sessions per day until ketosis is established. Once in the morning on an empty stomach, and once after my afternoon workout. These are high intensity interval cardio sessions. Once it is established I cut back. Of course, your diet is the biggest factor in accomplishing this. If this is wrong, then the diet will not work no matter what you do.

This may sound ignorant....I did the Atkins diet 2 years ago and it worked well (I wasn't weight training during that time)...

How much muscle mass did you loose on the keto diet? I know high protein intake will help to reduce it and every individual is different, but how much did you lose??
