DUDE, THE RECORD FOR BENCH IS HELD BY BILL CRAWFORD FOR 750 LBS. THIS IS ALSO A POUND FOR POUND RECORD, AS HE IS ONLY 275 LBS. WHAT WAS THE NAME OF YOUR GUY??? ------------------

i saw the shit whith my own fuckin eyes along with about 2,000 ohter people at the arnold on sat and there were something like 15 world records set- i caught about the last 10 lifts and 1 guy did get 705 and two ladies, one at 130 and the other at 140 hit around 305. can't remember the exact names and exact #'s but they should be on the websites. a 55 yr old guy broke a record in mid 500's

It was George Halbert, 683.25 at 198. i don't think it was a world record though, two others got wr's, one guy i guess did like 450 at 155 or even better.

just out of curiousity how much would you say a bench shirt helped these guys-as far as additional pounds-I heard they add about 100lbs. ------------------

good " carryover " for a double denim bench shirt is about 10%

george halbert benched 683 and it is the best pound for pound bodyweight co efficient bench press ever beating the elusive markus shick...

Yo, some guy up there said that the world bench record is held by a Bill Crawford at 700 something. I thought it was held by Anthony Clark at over 800.
Amateur Bodybuilder Posts: 184 |
it is held By Anthony Clark.....He is talking about pound for pound under super heavyweights I assume. I've had the pleasure of competing with Anthony in Austin 10yrs ago!! ------------------
Amateur Bodybuilder Posts: 102 |
anthony does have the super heavy weight world record at 800 pounds but there is a formula to decide who is the strongest pound for pound markus schick had it with around 565 at 152 something close to that, and george needed a 660 to beat him and got a 683. he now has the best bench co efficent ever and of course the 198lb world record. he beat his own record of 650...

World records in powerlifting are jokes, it depends on the fedaration that sanctioned the meet. There are at least 20 different federations each with world records in each weight class. 680 at 198 is impressive. You can get 10-15% from a bench shirt.
Amateur Bodybuilder Posts: 102 |
plifter, you obviously are no powerlifter if you do not know that no one in the history of powerlifting has even dreamed of benching 683@198. his world record is no joke. most 198 powerlifters would love to be able to squat or deadlift 680 and george benched that. if you are going to disrespect fellow westside lifters make sure you have your facts straight...

Hey Westside, I never said his lift was a joke. I said powerlifting records in general are a joke. I was referring to the previous posts debating what "THE" world record was. I was trying to point out that there are 1000 world record lifts depending on the federation, division, and weight class. I've seen "world record" bench presses of 155 lbs. in the 100% pure natural division 181 lb. weight class of the World All Natural Midget Powerlifting Federation. Lifts like these are jokes. If you don't agree that the record books in powerlifting are diluted with cheap records then you haven't been around powerlifting long enough. If you note, I said 680 at 198 was pretty impressive.
