Yo Hows yer doing? I was wondering how everyones gymns size up, I thoughtn it would be interesting to compare it to here in Medieval England. Mine is one major floor with aerobic, machines and free weights combined. All machines except seated calf raisers, and cable crossover machines. Free weights are shit, we have three dumbell racks and one barbell like rack. Of DB racks two which go from 1k to 10k?!!? and the other 12k to 30k?????? (are they both for women???) Fixed Bar weights, 10k to 45k. Barbell weights up to about 200k but only one bench. No power rack. Also got one smith machine which takes up loads of space and no-one uses. Sauna, swimming pool, nutritionist, physio etc. Cost of membership is 40 per month which I got through corporate membership. I would cancel it but havent found anything better yet here, I am trying to build up my own free weights enough so i dont need it. Talk about f***ing rip off, even if it is a brand new building. aNYWAY i'D be interested to hear what kind of service you get over there? Laterz geeze

I think in lbs, not kilos - but my gym is 3 floors. the 2nd and third floor are really only on the perimeter, so when you are on the first floor, you can see all the way up to the ceiling 3 floors up. the 3rd floor has a track, some doctors offices, 2 spin/aerobics rooms, a small amount of cardio like rowing machines and elliptical trainers. it also has a few nautalis type machines and then 3 water fountains. the second floor has nutritionist offices, doctors offices, a food court, a hair salon, a day care center, a clothing shop, and the administrative offices. the first floor has the locker rooms, the sauna, the whirlpools, the massage room, the two basketball courts (the celtics are said to train there, but I only ever see the injured ones), squash courts, a pool, and then the weights. they have a bunch of nautalis-like machines that have a computer screen on each one and they are all networked so that you log on to the system and it keeps track of what you are lifting and what you should be doing and the like - it tells you what station to go to next... it is like lifting for retards. but the machines are decent and you don't have to use the computer part of it. then they have a bunch of cybex machines, and then only one squat rack, one incline bench, one decline bench, two smith machines, one hack squat, three areas for situps and stretching, two cable stations, and then three racks of free weights - the lasrgest I've seen there is only 120 or so I think... maybe as high as 180. three bench stations, and then assorted benches and stuff that you can move around, and two preacher curl stations. they have against one 3 story glass wall looking out over some woods, a row of elliptical trainers and some treadmills (maybe 15 total) and then also an aerobics room. on another wall there are tvs - they have some deal with MediaOne and there are probably 20 tvs (two rows of 10 - there are also another 10 up on the 3rd floor with the aerobic equipment there). facing that wall are probably 40-50 elliptical trainers and some treadmills and such - each one allows you to plug in headphones (which they will give you if you ask) so that you can control what station you listen to, if any. there is also a sports medicine office on that floor, and that is where you will usually see a celtics player or two. This all is right near where I work and is $120 a month, but my company covers half of it. I like it a lot, but it can get crowded with annoying people (people that don't take the weight off when they are done, people that lift more than they really should be, and then just old people milling around and getting in the way). There might be more stuff over by the basketball courts, but I never really go over that way. ------------------ Build a man a fire, he is warm for a day. So I guess the vision of us brits training hardcore in old castle dungeons then is pretty damn spot on by the sounds of it. I mean where else can we go. Gymns here are too cardio orientated for the lazy asses that are too scared to go running down a road somewhere, I mean why pay to cycle on a stationary machine and run on a tredmill? Oh its for the consultation and so they can lift 5lb weights for a year, hmm, anyone with half a brain can get fit through running and cycling, its easy. You dont need to fork out loads of money a month to do it. What a waste, these people are just loose cannons.

Speak for yourself Lib. During term time I work out at my Uni gym. (Big sports uni in the midlands). There are a lot of professional athletes and GB juniors here, and a lot of the local Football and Rugby teams train here as well. Some of the players in the 6 nations this weekend have been in the gym over the last couple of weeks. I wont go on about all the stuff, but there is pretty much everything you could want, including a room solely for Olympic lifts with free bars with eight lifting platforms and the DBs go up to 60kgs (135lbs). Best gyms Ive ever seen (in the UK) and it only costs me 100 for the year. When I am at home (South East), I train at 4 or 5 different places. Some are shit hot and owned by local Pros, others are shit ex council ones, but you can get a good workout in, and its a good change of pace. To be honest, I dont really pay for any of these (Its all about who you know ).

Damn your lucky 100 for the year, that is damn good. The big corporations charge a fortune Ive found, I think some of the big American names should come over here, they could make a killing. Why did I bother getting a job, I should have remained a student. Bah humbug

Haha, I hear ya. I worked in the city last year (gap year). Good money, but I didn't like the hours, if you know what i mean! The gyms were very fitness orientated.
