Me and my buddy, got into a little disagreement the other day. He claims that Dead LIfts only target your lower back, I argued with him for 2 hours on the issue and he still can't undestand. Can someone try to help me convince him. If you're using your lower back you're probably doing them wrong.. ------------------

Your Buddy is wrong.....has he even ever done dead-lifts???? Try your legs, arms, shoulders, back....every part of your body gets a great workout!!!! great for building strength and mass...maybe he should try them one day!! ------------------

Deadlifting hit all your back side. I got a killer back/traps/hams workout doing them. My upper back has definetly grown because of the deadlift. You have to consider that deadlifting is and compound movment, so there is a greater anabolic response of the body. That means that even if you wouldnt hit your upper back doing it, it would grow anyway. Same as squat. ------------------

If you're doing them right, you should definately be sore in your lower back as well as your trapezius. You will be working your lats as well, although I find that my lats don't get sore from deadlifting. I sometimes feel soreness in my neck as well. I can even feel my arms and pecs tighten up when I do deads. This movement should work more muscles in your body than any other exercise.

They work the whole back. Especially your traps.

Deads stimulate and require more muscle groups than any other lift. This includes everything in the legs and BACK.

Deadlifts seem to be the only exercise to target my back really well, i mean the whole back, other back exercises seem to just target my forearms. |
