I have been reading this board for about half a year now, and finally said to myself "i am going to try these "ass to the floor squats" that these guys praise so highly". Now mind you, i have always gone to parellel on squats, i am no 2 inch knee bender. I did those fucking things ass to the floor and i was sore for a week! For the first 3 days i was walking like an 80 year old man who took just took a major ass pounding. But i know i will get bigger and stronger faster than i would have before. And by the way, since i did them 2 weeks ago my bench went up, hehe. Ass to the floor squats for all! [This message has been edited by JohnyJuice (edited March 01, 2001).] | ||

YEAH! Just done mine tonight. Remember if you are new to them drop down in weight and build up slowly. If your muscle is only used to a partial contraction with a weight or partial movement then it will be weaker at the new range of motion. Particularly your ligaments and tendons as the bodys mechanics put varying strains on different connections in different positions. | ||

To literally go ass to the floor do you need to do more of a medium to wide stance? I think at my height I would tip over if I did them in a close stance. | ||

yeah dude. i went from 315x7 to 245x7. it doesnt hurt my ego though. in weight lifting it's how far you go, NOT how impressive you look while getting there. as to the tipping over reply: start of with a universal machine or something. but try and get one that is accurate as far as weight goes. hope this helps. looking forward to having legs like fuckin tree trunks. Yeah, it was pretty brutal. did 7 sets of squats, last 3 till failure. I had gotten lazy with my legs for about a month. I was doing leg presses like a champ, telling myself that it was almost as good as squats. Self denial can be so powerful. So i said to myself "who the fuck are you kidding? Squat boy!" and here i am, a born again wobbly-walker. | ||

yeah, it definatly works the ass muscles. my ass was sore as well. it's all good though. i have a bubble butt anyway, at least thats what i am told. | ||

Your Bench went up from doing Ass to the floor squats ?... i do agree with the technique, but dont like to do them all the time, I switch back and forth from just below parrallel to ass to floor. | ||

I normally go just below parallel on regular squats, but for the ass to the floor doesn't it make sense to use a smith machine? ------------------ | ||

After two knee operations and one back surgery I only go parallel or just below. I'll be the first to admit that I'm scared to go all the way down. And just think, all those doctors told me I'd never squat again. Wouldn't they love to see me rep 315 with proper form before I put heavy weight on the bar. Whats the deal with these ass to floor squats then? I have a mate whos big and he said doing those has wrecked his knees so much he cant cycle no more and cant play football (soccer)????? Do they wreck the knees or is that just squat for you anyway, or poor form? | ||
