Complex or simple... just doesn't matter. Try looking at the Glycmic Index (GI). Sugars and High GI foods have there roles in your diet. During your workout, and espcially post workout, your carb intake should be primarly simple sugars with a high GI rating. Pre-workout you want to make sure that you have a very low GI carbohydrate. Throughout the day, you should have carbs that are low to moderate GI, and then of course should have very little carbs toward the evening, and they should all be low GI. High GI foods, decrease GH levels, becuse that cause a rapid elevation of Insulin, which is an antagonistic hormone to GH. You do however, want to spike insuling levels post workout to replace glycogen that was lost due to training, and keep cortisol levels undercontrol, so thats why you need a high GI food.

As for your question, what is the best carb. Try to eat things that weren't made by man. Breads and pastas are out. Stay away from them. Rice, oats, barely, non-grass grains, and root veggies are good choices, of course veggies are an excellent carb source as well.

Yams and sweet potatoes are low glycemic.I also think that oatmeal and brown rice are good 4 dieting. As already intelligently stated, post workout is the time when u want a high glycemic carb w/ your protein.I do well w/ whey and white rice/white potatoes.Get ripped!

Apart from food, I like maltodextrin. It is tasteless, colourless and you can add it to virtually anything.
