They are complex carbohydrates (or good carbos). They are fine but you should avoid carbos within 5 hours of bedtime. Eat mainly fiber and protein during the last 5 hours before bedtime.

Pasta is rather refined. It is a processed food meaning all the goodies in it have been stripped away and the Gi is higher. Not the best choice for a carb. Barley, rice, or oats are much better selections.

It's all about how quickly the carbs enter the blood stream.

Its not the rice itself that is bad, it is that most people eat white rice which has had the brown husk(?) removed which is high in fibre and slows down the digestion and absorption process. It is the same with pasta. Wholemeal pasta is digested much slower, therefore enters the blood stream more steadily than the white, refined type.

Go to the top of the page and click on the News/Articles link. Scroll down to the Calorie Chart and the Glycemic Index Lists. Lots of info. their

It states that a 'piece' of Broccali contains 10g carbs. Also notice the brown vs white rice in the GI index
