I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW STEROIDS WORK. MAYBE ONE OF THE GURUS CAN ENLIGHTING ME. DOES TESTOERONE CREATE NEW PROTEINS IN THE BODY AND HOW DOES IT DO IT, BY ITSELF? I MEAN DON'T YOU NEED PROTEIN TO BUILD MUSCLE? SPECIFICALLY THE ESSENTIAL AMINO ACIDS? IF YOU UNDERSTAND MY QUESTION AND CAN HELP, PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME.

Steroids don't build muscle. Hence, they're not a miracle drug.

I think its a good question...... How in detail do they work??? From a chemical / biological point of view

The anabolic effects of the steroids are elicited by the action of the steroids on androgen receptors in muscle tissue. The steroid binds to the receptor and is carried to the nucleus of the cell where it tells the DNA in the cell to transcribe the steroids message onto messenger RNA (mRNA). The mRNA then delivers its message to the muscle cells and this causes a response in the cells that results in increased protein synthesis, which causes hypertrophy (growth) of the cells and the muscle tissue that the cells make up. The different molecular configurations of the various anabolic steroids cause significantly different cellular responses, and even a subtle change of one atom can elicit a unique response for a specific steroid. That is why each steroid has distinct characteristics that make it more appropriate for specific therapeutic uses. It should also be noted that anabolic steroids, in general, are hematopoietic (blood building) agents; they increase hemoglobin production and hematocrit. ------------------

Good info, also the water and salt retention caused by androgenic steroids allows promotes greater leverage therfore allowing you to train with heavier weights which promotes grewater hypertrophy.

THANKS PCHOSKITZ. I GUESS MY OTHER QUESTION WOULD BE, WHAT ROLE DOES AMINO ACIDS PLAY IN TESTOSTERONE INDUCED MUSCLE. I KNOW THE NON ESSENTIAL AMINO ACIDS ARE PRODUCED BY THE BODY, DOES THAT MEAN FROM TESTOSTERONE? AND DO YOU STILL NEED TO GET ENOUGH PROTEIN WHEN TAKING GEAR?

In *my* opinion, I read that they increased protein to muscle synthesis. (your body can process much more protein at any given time) and yes, protein is a MUST. open for correction on the above.

There is much more to it than just the component of protein synthesis. If I were to explain I have to admit I'd be talking out of my ass, but Brian Haycock has a great article on how steroids cause muscle growth and strength gains and it basically listed seven main functions. Check it out at the mesomorphosis.com site. It had a lot to do with different growth factors, satellite cells, etc. Definitely not just your standard, "they increase protein synthesis, and they decrease catabolism." It's a good article. later. |
