I started to do cleans again, and I must say that they are an excellent total body exercise. Furthermore, they are a great warm up for squats; for some reason, my flexibility increases after cleans. No longer do I stumble at the bottom of squats and I am able to go all the way down. IP: Logged |

I do "clean and presses" on shoulder day. Great way to get the whole body warmed up. They have made me noticeably stronger. Matt IP: Logged |

I began lifting Olympic style, so I have done more than my share of Clean and Jerks. Cleans are especially great exercises for your traps, hamstrings and gluteus. Jerks (or presses) seem to be great for my stabilizer muscles. I would recommend them to anyone who can do them properly. My best C&J was years back and it was about 300lb, but I use about 185lb now because I do not want to over-do it. I recommend relatively light weight unless you are very hardcore.

I do cleans for football. Love'em. My best has been 300. Probably my weakest part of my body. Ruffy, try snatch squats for warm-up for squats. They're grrrrrrrrrreeeeeaaaatttt! ------------------ IP: Logged |

I dont play competitive sports anymore. So I only do cleans when I want to put some unnecessary stress on my back IP: Logged |

I used to do cleans a lot. I don't believe in doing repetition cleans, however, as I feel the negative is too stressful. My habit of dropping the weight at the end of the movement freaked too many gym owners out, so I no longer incorporate the movement into my workouts. IP: Logged |

2Thick 300 lb C&J impressive. I can do about 240, but I know what you mean about hitting the stabilizer muscles.....all my shoulder presses (dumbbell and barbell) have jumped up. Matt IP: Logged |

If you are feeling stress in your lower back from doing cleans, then you are not using proper technique! You should feel most of the stress in your legs! IP: Logged |

Lads; Way back in the dark ages when I was on a crew team, we did cleans all the damn time. We had one psycho of a trainer (didn't know his ass from his elbow, let alone how to train) that thought we should be working with 50% of our max for 50 reps on cleans, one set. Belive me, this will make you puke. Won't make you stronger, but it will make you puke. ------------------ IP: Logged |
