I want to hear from all the bros who had lay offs or breaks from training. How long did it take for you to get back to your previous best in terms of size, strength , etc. I am asking this because I almost completed one month of training. I am back training again after a five month layoff (seemed like five years to me) and is wondering how long does it usually take a person to get back. My training, nutrition/supplementation, training, rest is just as good if not better than before. I'm thinking I can get back in three and half months even though I haven't been training in five month. (bench already up 25lbs, squats up about 40, arms up 3/4 inch and all other lifts are sky rocketing too) Generally do you think it takes a person the same of amount of time training compared to the amount of time of the layoff to come back. Eg, it takes 8 months to get back if you have not been liftin for 8 months. I don't think it should take that long!!! I know this depends on the individual but what do you bros think??? IP: Logged |

Well, i took off for about three and a half months back before christmas, I got considerably smaller, felt bad, and lost weight and strength. I started back at new years, and am now stronger than i ever was, although that three months of getting back in it seemed like an eternity. Good Luck though IP: Logged |

If you are an experienced athlete, then it should roughly take you half the time you took off to get back into decent shape. It will take a bit longer to get back to tip-top shape, though. But, if you adjust your diet and supplementation correctly, then you will be back in the swing of things before you know it. You can only go up from here. Jon ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hmm, I took 7 months off, not by choice. I had just grad from college and was desparately searching for work. During the seven months I mainly ran hills to strengthen my legs and performed push-ups and used the ab wheel to strengthen my upper body. Let me tell you, calesthetics is not weightlifting! When I was able to get back to the gym, my weightlifting strength was appalling! I have been training for 5 months and I am no where near my former peak fitness! Hell, at 29, I do not think I will ever get back. I mean, as I embark upon 30, I really feel like I am aging. I feel over the fucking hill. Maybe I should go on the juice regularly. I have only did one cycle 2 years ago. later IP: Logged |

I sure hope the 1/2 rule doesn't always aply to getting back in shape ! I laid off for ten years, a year ago I started getting back in shape, and even though I've been at it for a year I'm still a long way from where I was. Not only in physical strenght, but mental resolve too. I'm commited to getting back in shape, and I sure hope it doesn't take 4 more years...even if it does I'm in for the long haul this time. I just had to say this , more for me than for the rest of you, thanks for listening. IP: Logged |

I took off about one and a half years one time and with the help of Sus250 I got in better shape than when I was training in only 8 weeks. The down side is I took off another 5 months now and lost more than I gained plus added several pounds of fat. Just started back again last month and will try it again. L8R IP: Logged |

Once you have reached a point once it is much easier to re-reach that point after time off due to muscle memory. When I started PT school I stopped working out and went from 225 to 175. A year later I started back with juice at the same time. I gained most of it back. While I was waiting for my sos to kick in (about 4 weeks) I gained 12lbs. then sos gave abother 20. IP: Logged |

I missed 7 weeks due to suregery about a year and a half ago. However, it came back fast. (I was 22, though - age is a factor - how old are you?) At first, I was so sore from lifting that I could hardly move, but after two weeks I was about 75%, and after 4 weeks I was right back where I left off. Regarding gear - I would wait until you are recovered to start gear, because you risk injury to your connective tissue. Good luck bro - nothing sucks like time off but nothing feels better than getting all the way back. Matt IP: Logged |

Myself, I took almost 3 years off (I was mixed up in alot of crap, moved away from the area). Anyway, I was missing it so bad I went back and hit it harder than ever. I had lost about 45 lbs and could not believe the loss in strength. It took me about a full year to get back to where I was, but the gains kept coming and now 3 years back, much better than ever. I think muscle maturity and memory play a large role. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Its easier getting back to a place you've been before..... I had to take about 7-8 months off the time I inflammed my liver from d-bol and beer....had jaundice and went from 225 to 175, I was so damn depressed, but after feeling better (physically), I started back slowly, and after a couple months was putting on weight and some good lifting numbers, then I finally decided to hit some mild cycles and BOOM, I put up numbers like never before......and by the way, I'm 29 and I feel better than ever !!!
