I have been lifting for the past 9-10 years ever since high school. During wrestling about 5 years ago I partially separated my shoulder. I never had surgery or anything but I did rehab. Ever since then whenever I start to get good gains in strength I get a pain in my shoulder. It mostly hurts when I bench and do lateral raises. I have tried to rest it but does not seem to work. Just wondering if any of you guys have similar experience or possibly know what it is. Does it have to do with ligaments or tendons? It does not hurt until I am at the peak of my gains. Thanks, IP: Logged |

i dislocated my shoulder when i was about 10 or eleven. I cannot do flat bench presses with any heavy weight, and can't do declines at all with barbells. I use dumbbells instead and i have no problems or soreness. IP: Logged |

Dude you might want to try some sus250. It helped my shoulder considerably. also try incline barbell presses instead of flat bench and try partial range of motion with lateral raises or avoid them all together for a while IP: Logged |

I dislocated my shoulder last January...kept me on the shelf for about 3 monthes. I didn't one single weight for 3 damn monthes....man that was depressing. Anyway rest is the only thing that will help you. When you get full range of motion back try doing pushups. If you can do that without pain you're probably ready to hit the weights again. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Go to a sports rehab place and buy some of those rubber bands to do rotator cuff exercises with. Also, I would eliminate barbell exercises and go strictly dumbell. When doing dumbell presses, on the descent, turn your wrists slightly outward (rotate thumbs toward head). This takes alot of strain off the shoulder complex. This, along with the rotator cuff exercises eliminate my shoulder pain. --bigtbone IP: Logged |

Id like to tell bigtbone, that his advice was dead-on and id follow it. He seems to be an educated lifter. And from what i know, it is correct. Well good luck. IP: Logged |

I also was a pitcher. I have tendonitis in my shoulders. I stick to dumbbells for chest and avoid aggrivation. But, everyone is different and you should see what's best for you. Also, there are ways to work around those two exercises. E-mail me for more info. I have to go soon...I think my girlfriend wants some lovin' IP: Logged |

you may have a bicep tendon out of its grove. Many shoulder problems are caused by wide grip benching. Use dumbells and turn your palms slightly in. also by supanating your palms during Back workouts will keep tress off the Bicep tendon. If a Bicep tendon is out of its grove it will cause shoulder pain commonly confused with rotator cuff problems. I have a bad shoulder from years of beach Volleyball and to make it worse I dislocated it in December. Through Ice and heat friction massage, internal external rotations with bands and self therapy I was able to get back to almost 100% in two months, Blew my doctor away. Theres a really good article in Dec issue of Iron man explaining how to realign the bicep tendon. I reccomend this for anybody suffer from shoulder problems due to Training of pushing movements. Benching causes more shoulder problems than any exercise in the gym. PEACE. IP: Logged |

Gobler, Hell yeah I had that as well! I wide grip bench basically because I have long arms - and for the longest time I thought it was a rotator cuff injury. Thanks bro Matt IP: Logged |
