What are the heaviest db's at your gym, and are they nice to use, i mean are they too damn big. As well how heavy would you like the db to go up to, if it was possible to make them small enough to be usefull.

Damn E2, I pretty much stay on the little boys rack of dumbbells, but I'm pretty sure the heaviest my gym has are 150lbs. They use 10lb plates which are pretty compact for a db that size. If this is for your new gym, one big gripe that I have is make sure you have a couple of sets of the smaller size dumbbells because they are the ones that people are using the most. I hate to sit around my gym waiting for some asshole to get finished with the 30's or 40's because there's only one set of each. Hope that helps. IP: Logged |

the db's only go up to 130 lber's and the barbells only go up to 80 lbs can you believeit? you'd think at least 110 lbs, you know? and i agree with e2, i wish they made dumbells heavy but smaller in size maybe use a mixture of different metals to get a heavier but smaller dumbell. it's a bitch doing overhead tricept extensions with a 110 lb. dumbell that won't go down low enough for a good stretch without hitting your lower neck area. tri ------------------ IP: Logged |

I train at Worlds Gym which is owned by Kevin Levrone. The dbs go up to 180's and they are of course in 10lb plates. It is impressive to see guys doing presses with those monster dbs. IP: Logged |

170. 10 lb plates. Not in good condition, though. Kinda shitty. When I get to 170 lb presses, I'll let you know what I want them to go up to. Until then... I'm just trying to get to what's already there! IP: Logged |

Well, since my gym is in my basement, my dumbells only go up to 110's. It is all I can afford. They are all pro style though. I got em on the racks just like at the gym.5's to 110's cost me about 1300.00 IP: Logged |

At my wonderful gym the dumbbells go up to 150 and the plates only go up to 130? I stick mainly to the 15lbs for shrugs though. Cant wait to juice again and get it back in the 30 range. IP: Logged |

150lbs and are solid, (no plates) which is nice because they never get loose. However I wish that they went heavier. androx IP: Logged |

The heaviest dumbbell at my Gym is about 260lbs... he just walks around talking to everyone instead of lifting. He comes in for "social hour" instead of traing... its really aggravating too. Also if you mean weights... 150lbs. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Db's in my gym only go up to the 100lb'ers They used to only carry the old crappy style, not too mention they were rusted and just plain shitty! About a year and a half ago they bought all new equiptment so they are really nice now but again they only go to 100lbs... 10lb plates. I'm thinking of joining Golds. I loved the Pacific Beach Golds Gym when I was in San Diego Last summer. What I wouldn't give to have a gym like that here!!! Really miss it. ------------------ IP: Logged |

they go up to 130 i think. but get this....up to 75 are those rubber lined ones so the 75s look like the size of 110s then from 80-130 are the metal ones w/ 10lb plates, those actually feel like weight. im not too sure about how accurate those rubber safety weights are. feel kindof light for the # on the side. just my opinion. preloaded b bells go from 0 (looks like it lol) to 110. hope that helps. best bet is to stay with the metal dbells with plates, more maintenance to keep them tight though. but people like them. not as bulky. the solid ones tend to be bulky and the rubber ones are ridiculous. peace!!! ------------------ IP: Logged |

150's with 10lb plates i'd like to see 200's for shrugs and such, but i do agree with kbar deffinetly have more than one set of the lighter db's since those are the ones that are usually being waited for. Plates IP: Logged |

They go up to 100 at my gym which sucks. They are also the rubber lined ones. At first, I hated them but now I have grown to like them because it's not so loud when those dumbasses clang them together during their reps. Also, they have thick grips which I like. IP: Logged |

The world gym that I used to go to had 200lb weights but traded them for something else because only my partner would use them. Now the Fru-Fru gym that I go to has db that go up to 120. That is ok, for awhile. I like the idea of having infinite weights on the rack but you know how that is. I would say start at 50 and go to 200. Depending on what type of gym you are opening. my gym is predominantly a powerlifting gym with many wcw wrestlers as well (whom look a lot bigger on tv- by the way!). We have 200lb dbells which I flat press for 3sets 6 reps. Incline I hit the 180's. IP: Logged |

I started thinkin that my gym ain't hardcore enough for me, then I remebered that I haven't ever used anything bigger than 110s -the humbled honduran IP: Logged |

I go to a few gyms, and they all only go up to 120s. However, I think it is in their best interests to stay at that level, cuz not many guys can lift that. By the way, my one gym has all their weights coated with rubber, which sux, cuz the 60s look like 120s. They're too big. IP: Logged |

The heaviest are 160 but they are adjustable, which is good because I have often made them 200 for DB rows. It's a pain in the ass though and time consuming to change them.If I had my druthers,I would want them solid so there is no play in the weight as they are moving and also thin handled. The owner of my gym,who has placed #2 in all the top NPC national heavyweight classes, and has beaten some of the guys who are pro today such as Vince Taylor in thepast when he was an amateur, will not get them any heavier simply because, how many people use these monstrosities?
