My BF has risen from 9 - 18 percent over the last two and a half years as I have moved away from Fitness training to BB'ing. My weight has risen from 141lbs to 200lbs I am currently using N-Large Gainer which is 800cals and 50g Protein. I am only interested in gaining mass - not too worried about definition YET. The BF has been stable for about 9 months but my weight has increased about 14lbs But with all this BF to burn do I still need a gainer or could I cut the carbs a little and utilise the BF? ------------------ IP: Logged |

BUMP - Just been measured again - looking closer to 20 Percent - this is unacceptable, I am used to having a good stomach - but I don't want to sacrifice any size. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I think gainer might just get you fatter. I'm looking into Cytoplex. It's a meal replacment with fat burning agents and it still has around 50gms of protein- IP: Logged |

You don't need the weight gainer......Keep your protein high and lower fats, and carbs..... IP: Logged |

Cut the gainer, and eat most of your carbs early of course. Work out in the morning on an empty stomach. Bingo, you're on your way!!! deltman IP: Logged |

Bro, You may want to try to lean out a little (dare I say, "do some cardio"....) and see how you look with a lower bodyfat, in order to determine the direction you want to go - stop the gainer for now, and then when you gt down a little leaner, decide if you have enough size or want more, or whatever, and adjust from there. AT 20% bf it can be hard to tell..... Matt IP: Logged |

I was 20% body fat before I started my current cycle. I used eq/test and it got my % down to 14, with out any cardio. Now I am almost done with my cycle, so I am starting to do cardio 30min x 5 days a week. Try the same, it works! I plan on hitting 9-8% in 2 months. ------------------ IP: Logged |

With gainers I've noticed people tend to put on a good 50/50 fat to muscle. If you eat right and cycle enough protein you can get that down to a 70/30 or better. I only tell the real thin dudes to go with a gainer. But then I'm terrified of getting over 9% BF because cardio for me means doing those damn arm cycle machines, which can tire the sh|+ out of you for a good two days. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the replies - I have got here from being 9 percent BF - I have gained 28lbs in weight and an extra 10 percent BF. I don't know the maths to figure out how much gain is muscle. When I was 8-9 percent I was lean but too small - hence two years of training and eating that is making me bigger AND fatter. Matt, the BF is only on my midsection, I have very practically zero on my upper body or legs - I know where I want to go...I shun cardio for fear of catabolsing what I have. My goal is SIZE. I will put up with the BF but I would like to just increase Muscle!! From the advice so far I will cut carbs slightly but increase the protein. Probably by switching from a gainer to Whey protein. If I drop the carbs while working on Mass will I restrict my growth? ------------------ [This message has been edited by MC (edited March 22, 2000).] IP: Logged |

Bro, I'd better switch gainer to a protein powder and do some cardio 3tms/week. No reducing carbs won't affect size, but you'll fill a little weaker though. I'm in the same BF range with same distribution, and I consider too risky going over (risk of having to do f***ing arghhh cardio work later). Get Big, IP: Logged |

Hey bro...I tried the gainer route, and It put on some muscle, but that shit has so many carbs in it that you get fat as fuck..It took me awhile to burn off the gained fat whilst preserving the muscle..Your choice. ------------------ IP: Logged |
