Is anyone else sick of Mike Mentzer and his "bodybuilding science"?If his ideas are so great, and his "clients" are packing on the muscles, where are these "freaks".And BTW if his methods were so great, why was he only mediocre in size when he competed?maybe 210lbs at best.I think the guys screwed in the head.At the 95 ASC I heard him talking about Jeff Everson, man I thought he was gonna start a fight right there, all because Everson wrote an article questioning Heavy duty, caled "When Pigs fly".Whats this guy on?

Mike has basically been writing the same article over and over for 20 years now, but I still like Heavy Duty, because it works for me (BTW, I almost never put my clients on Heavy Duty, and I do some very hi-volume work from time to time) I read Everson's article and he made some valid points, but some of the basic tenets of HD are difficult to refute and are used even by people who adhere to a high-volume regimen, eg more rest days, emphasis on basic movements etc. I personally take a lot of the attendant philosophy w/ a grain of salt, though. Yes, Mentzer weighed around 210 when he competed, but, like a lot of the bodybuilders of the time, he had great thickness (remember, Arnie at 6'1" never competed at more than 235) and was very strong. The only top pro in recent years who was influenced by Mike was Dorian Yates. He got pretty big and freaky, though.
