yeah, calipers are by far the best, unless you go to your doctor and they have the equipment to do it on you. (It's done in a tub of water), but clipers are cheaper.

Electronic readers can vary as much as 10% or more. I once had mine done at the mall and first one told me 30%, second 4%, and the third, 17%.

Calipers on me read 10.7% at the present.

Which is more accurate depends on the measurer. Yes calipers should be more accurate if the user knows what he is doing, and does it consistantly. I like the bio impedince scales because as long as you use it at the same time of day (mornings) with no fluid or caffeine intake, you can monitor body content and changes easier. This is best for indidvidual monotoring, however if you need 100% accuracy you better head to a place with underwater scales and about $100 in your pocket.

Actually a friend of mine bought an electric scale that measured weight and body fat%. It said that the body fat measurements would be innacurate for bodybuilders.

I paid $25 at the nearby college to be hydrostatically weighed (dunktank) and it came out about 1% lower than the calipers. If you are dying to get a really accurate reading, I would call up your local university's fitness department and see if they can measure for you.

Really, a bodyfat measurement should be used to see changes and the same method should be used every time and measured by the same individual.

If you look a an electrical impedence BF tester manual, you will see there is a 7 day protocol to be followed. ie. no caffeine or diuretics, etc. I actually own a $3000 machine that will measure me at 10.5% and then measure 11.3% 5 minutes later. (and i didn't even move in between).

So, in conclusion, a caliper measurement is cheap, easy, and fairly accurate.

Good luck on getting your bodyfat down!

A very accurate way of being measured is ultra sound. Check around and see if you can find someone with . It is made specificlly for reading bodyfat. The bodybuilders in my area hate it because it reds them higher than they think they are. It it very accurate because the operatore can see on the monitore sceen how many mm of fat in deapth that you are regirstering. They measure you in two places and the test takes 30 seconds.

i use the pinch test: if you pinch more than an inch then you are carrying too much subcutaneous fat!

12 point caliper test is the most accurate. Underwater weighing is not accurate if you go back into the medical journals the subjects in the initial study where street bums and the data was very innacurate. I can get into the tub and test myself 5 times and it can fluctuate 5-10%. Bioelectrical impedance does not work. I have trained policemen that where 18-22% that had to be tested by bio. I got them under 10% by having them eat sausage and drinking a ton of water the day before. Futrex infra red, dont even get me started about this crap. If you can find someone that has done over 5000 tests with calipers you can trust there results Do not sum up the total numbers and try to figure out a percent just use each reading and try to improve on those numbers. All caliper formulas are complete BS. Sex, body type, racial d all are factors that screw the formulas up
