I was reading through one of the posts below, and i just wanted to hear from some of those who think dead lifts are a waste of time, hell, they add tons of thickness to the back and also almost every other body part, i especially like stiff legged deads also. I just think its one of the best and most often ignored exercises left in the gym!!

I agree with you, no substitute for deads or squats!

There is no substitute if you want to add
thickness to your back,legs,waist,and glutes.

The problem with deads and squats is that
they are power movements so if your a
bodybuilder you do not always want a
thick waist.

My personal favorite exercise is probably
deadlifts. I love them but they are not
for everyone. You can acheive the same
results from deadlifts and squats without
doing them. It may take longer but at
some point you could get the same results.

I think some people do not perform those
movements because they can be dangerous if
your going super heavy. I know this for a fact but I'm a believer that deadlifts are
necessary to develop streangth and a foundation of muscle.

one unsolicited opinion from the Big Catratcho:

Deadlifts are a fundimental part of any bodybuilder's program. Like the squat they are a systemic exercise that promotes anabolism and growth "ever-whur"

Squat day always leaves me ravenous, and I can feel the endorphins ruhing through my whole body. Deads tire out my body like no other exercise. The stress of lifting 400, 500, 600 pounds forces your body to adapt.

Sissy squats, leg press, hack squats, lunges, bench press, military press, none of those can put such a heavy stress on your body.

cycle your deadlifts. You don't need to make them a focal point of your routine, or do them year round, but the dude doing deads will be bigger than the dude who aint.

But I guess the argument will be, you want to be Bob Paris, or Dorian Yates?

Bob Paris is a big mo fo too. (I'll reiterate, you can still get huge, but not BIGUGLYFUCKIN'huge)

Deads are awesome!! Bottom line: You must deadlift! There isn't a substitute for deads. There's no way around it either. If you want thickness in the back, traps and glutes, deads are great!! Deads and squats are a must in any program. If you want results, you must do them. Do them correctly too! Bend your knees and get your back flat and ass down. Chin up and then drive!! They'll beat the crap outta ya, but its all worth it!!

Deads do not thicken your waist, they thicken your BACK! Squats as well, as long as you do them properly. All the top bodybuilders do deads and squats...
