If the IOC and IFBB run the same tests or if the IOC tests are harder to beat. It will be interesting to see what happens down under. Does anyone know if the test is stricter for the IOC?

my question is does the IFBB really test? How do we know? They might just test people they want to bust to make it look legit- I mean every one of those guys is using huge amounts of gear, no masking agents are going to be able to beat the tests- most real test test for the masking agents too. Bodybuilding is a pageant- sure there are semi-athletic components- but it is still a pageant. I dont know why they would test at all- except maybe for diuretics, just becuase we have all seen the havoc they can wreak upon poor saps who used them incorrectly or excessively. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hard to say. Only occasionally I've seen a competitor disqualified because of the 'drug' test. It seems that if they intend to take the IOC seriously the IFBB will step it up(and start to lose money). IP: Logged |

I thought the IFBB only tests for diuretics in the system.. I mean damn, look at Ronnie Coleman and El Sonbaty, who needs drug tests? ------------------ IP: Logged |

Technically, if a sport is accepted by the IOC, the sport's governing body is supposed to use the standard IOC testing procedures. This is done on as local a level as possible in order to prevent positives at the Games themselves. The local body, in the event of a positive, would have the option of disciplining the the athlete or doing nothing. The IOC and sport federations also set up hotlines to answer athletes' questions. I would imagine the most common questions have to do w/ drug clearance times. Since BB is going to have "exhibition" status, I'm not sure what testing procedures, if any, the IOC or the IFBB will implement. BTW, a lot of track athletes from foreign countries train in the US, and are not subject to testing prior to the Trials and sometimes not until the Games themselves. IP: Logged |
