I know this post isn't exactly about anabolics, but I need some responses. Ever since I ve been gaining like mad on all my arm movements, I get these unbearable shooting pains running through the underside of my forearms. It started just on curls, but now I get it from everything. Like when I am cleaning the plates off the bar, and putting them back on the tree. Even just holding a 45plate is painful.

Have any of you guys experienced this while on gear, or even not on gear. What can I do to alleviate? Do i need a layoff? I am like mid-cycle and it would be a Fu#@!ng shame if I can't train anymore.

I call'em forearm splints...most get them from doing straight barbell curls. Don't use you thumb when you grip the bar, or whatever...it might not make them go away now, but could prevent them in the future......take a break and go light.

I've had a similar experience but mine was tendonitis. It got to the point where it felt like i had a hairline fracture in my wrist. Doc told me to take 2 weeks off, so i did. I went back and within 2 days, the pain was worse than ever before. My curl (even on ez bar) had dropped 60 pounds because of the pain. Eventually, i took 1 month off cuz it was preventing all my other lifts too. That 1 month made all the difference. I would go back to lifting with no pain at all. But a couple months later i started another cycle, and as the weights kept increasing, eventually, the pain has come back. Its not as intense as it was before, but i can feel it coming back.

Yep...had them...they suck..Mine started on my right forearm from using the ez bar on curls and lasted for over 2 months. I had to stop doing curls altogether just to allow enough of a break to let it heal. I was told that it comes from the tendon and or muscle tearing away from the bone and if you push it it will only get worse. I took the lay off ot advice and stay far away from the ezbar. Haven't had a problem with it since, but I distinctly remember the shooting pains. Especially when you are done with a set and you go to set the bar down. OUCH!!!!! Take this advice, lay off it for 3 to 4 weeks, seriously. Its not worth developing other problems or tearing it worse just for 1 cycle. Best of luck Vdevil.

A tendon tear huh? Yep. Thats it! It is the worst just as you set the bar down, like on seated preachers. YOWWCH. I guess I will stay away from all curls for a while. Maybe I can still do chins.

Thanx for all replys!

Yup Vdevil, the preacher curls did me in. I only use dumbells and cable preacher curls now. Its just not worth the pain for the gain if you know what I mean.

when I was playing football I used to get horrible shin splints and forearm splints ...i was told it was from the muscle seperating from the bone..???...anyway the trainer put me on potassium supplements and it pretty much cleared it up....bananas seem to have enough potassium to do the trick....it might be worth a shot

Yeah e2, it is like that for me to. On standing bar curls, I can't use the straight bar, but I can use the ez. But on preacher, I get pain from both. It is probably because my form is more strict on preachers.

Its actually the extensor muscle, I've been to a doctor about it. Simply comes from stressing the extensor too much.

My doctor had two suggestions, stop lifting for a while, or grip the bar less and use a cambered bar for a while.

If you look closely at my front double biceps shot on the updated pic's. You can see the scar on my right elbow from surgery due to tendinitus. So be careful. Vary your grip from open to closed. Don't favor one over the other. Heat, Ice, stretch, massage, and rest.

I had the exact same thing. It lasted about a month or so. I stopped doing straitbar curls and upright rows, and started icing it down each day. It took about 1-2 weeks, but now its gone altogether. Thank God.

Yeah, I got those bitches once... They usually only take a couple of weeks to subside.

I had that. The pain ran along the outside of my forearm along the bone. It also hurt mostly from preachers and straight bar curls. I was able to do hammer curls without any pain. So I went heavy on the hammers and cut everything out for two weeks.

I had the same thing happen to me about a year ago. It started like that, but then led to tendonitis. Went to the doctor and got some x-rays, he told me to take about 6-8 weeks off for it to heal. So after taking about 3 weeks off I got sick of just sitting around and took matters into my own hands. For 10 straight days in a row I shot 200mgs of Aussie Decca into my forearm by my elbow area where the injury was. After 10 days of that my arm was healed and I went back to lifting again. Still haven't had any problems with it.

Take care

I have the same problem with my left forearm and elbow. Sometimes it ruins my whole fucking workout! I have decided to bite the bullet and go light for a month.

Had them also, straight bar only. Hurts like a BITCH especially when you release the bar!! My doc said the same thing....take a goddamn break! I lightened things up and started doing a lot of reverse curls and forearm exercises. What happens is that your biceps overpower your forearms and that caused the muscles/tendons to pull from the bone.

Same thing happens to runners in their shins. Shin splints are excentuated from one's calves overpowering the muscles in the shins.

My recommendation....lighten up, do forearm exercises, and some anti-inflammatories will help too. Whatever you do, don't let it get any worse.

I only get those when I do straight bar curls. It's fine when I do the ez curl though. You ought to try a forearm brace. It just velcroes around your forearm just under your elbow. Puts enough pressure around the arm that when you curl, you don't feel the pain, and you especially don't feel that sharp pain right when you are done with your set and you let go of the bar. Try it. Works for me.

Glad to see I am not the only one suffering. I think of them as like shin splints in your forearms aswell. I manage to work around usually by using differnt exercises. It went away for about a year but now my weights have started going back up they are back worse than ever!

Forearm splints. I'm a cheerleader and got them from the over extension of my wrist doing backhandsprings and picking up chicks. Take three ibuprofin before each workout and heat them. Stretch them out good by pulling your hand back to your elbow. (using the floor is good) Afterwards, ICE, ICE, ICE. Ice in the evening, before you go to bed. They will go away. I was in the middle of a cycle to and iced the shit out of them and they went away. Dumbells tend to be easier too.

Hey VDev, why you don't put just a little (like 100mg/wk) of Deca on your cycle, for me this helps a lot with tendons and joint pain... But anyways, get easy on your forearms for a while...

Damn its good to know im not the only one. Ive had this and its been one of the biggest problems ive ever had. I take month break go back and sure enough after a month its back. Its always back. Doc says rest. I rest and it dont go away. I have no clue what to do i try to stay away from straight bar curls and it hurts the most when you let it go. I wish there was a cure but i definately cant find one. A friend at the gym told me to get gloves that have a long wrist strap that wraps around the wrist really tight right along the front of the forearm also. He said he had it and it helped alot. He also refered to it as shin splints. Hope this shit goes away i wanna start another cycle but im not wasting it while this shit is going on..

yep, use to get that alot, and gawd the pain when you opened your hand to release the bar. I used wraps on wrists, and stopped doing arms as much, eventually pain went away. Also try to strengthen your forarms.
