I was thinkin of opening up a gym, but the gym i was going to open would be for 50yr old and older....I think we would see alot more senior citizens in gyms but todays gyms are intimidating to the older crowd...not all of them but alot of them....what do you fellas think...a flop or a possible hit...

It's true i agree, my parents won't go to a gym because they say that they don't want to be around all the other 'hardbodies' and be reminded that they're old and flabby, not to mention fat.

They were saying that they need a gym full of old people who've all gone through the stages of life that they have, people who are whre they are.

Sounds like a good idea to me especially with all the baby boomers coming into their late 50's

You would have to do something like this in a large city since youre catering to such a small group of people. It could work though.Good Luck.

i hate to contradict anyone but i've run gyms for the last 6yrs and one thing is for certain. The turnover rate for senior citizens is too low. They show up all day every day wearin you out until they die and they never buy shi# from your proshop! laters

Sounds like a good business venture. Being a business owner, the most important thing to remember is LOCATION. If you are in the right area where there is a high population of seniors, and plan a good marketing strategy, then it should be a success. But if you are in a predomitately college area like I am, then that would probably not be the best idea.

A very large corporation in my town has a Wellness center for it's employees and family and the majority of the users are 35yrs or older. Not a whole lot of 50yrs+ people go to it, but I was suprised by how many I did see. I think it's easier to target the mid-life-crisis people than the elderly. Most old folks that use gyms have already been living a healthy lifestyle for a long time. Incorporate a bingo hall into the plans and now your cooking!!!!

Man this is a tuff one....right that you don't see many seniors at all at the gyms...there are some but not many...wondering if they will come out if there was a facility set up just for there needs....lots of cardio equip...and light on the weights....the overhead might be quite a bit less than at a major facility....I guess you never know unless you stick your head out there to be cut off.....
