Vexing question for me: I only get about 6.5 - 7 hrs of sleep a nite, but work in an office all day. Do my muscles grow only when I am sleeping, or also, when I am sitting on my ass, goofing off on my computer, I mean working. My training is intense and short ~ 1.25 hrs, 2 days on, 1 day off, and I eat plenty of protein (350g for 298 lbs BW, 12% BF). Got any answers? Thanks IP: Logged |

Now, someone correct me if I am wrong, but from what I understand sleep is an essential process of muscle growth because there is a chemical produced while sleeping that aids in the repair process of the muscle. When you lift and lift heavy, you tear down the small fibers in the muscle and when they repair themselves they grow back bigger each time. And this happens mostly during sleep. Am I completely off base and living in fairy land or is there some truth to this. IP: Logged |

Big BUMP on this one - I sometimes have to split my sleep - 5 hours at night - three hours in the afternoon No way on earth I could sleep 10 hours a day except on Sunday..(through work not choice!) MC [This message has been edited by MC (edited March 09, 2000).] IP: Logged |

I too have wondered this... I can't sleep, and when I do it is for no more than 2 or three hours before waking up. Does insomnia affect gains? Puc ------------------ IP: Logged |

According to everything I've heard, you only grow while sleeping. Something to the affect of, 'REM sleep stimulates the release of GH.' But I don't know for sure. I'd be interested in hearing from someone who knows. IP: Logged |

yes, so you are saying without gh there is no repair nor growth, testosterone is being produced throughout the day in bursts (specially when you have pussy)and at nite, the same goes for gh I thought. Anyway, I get up at nite at least 2-3 times to go piss, does that hinder growth, no fellas, there is a more general answer. IP: Logged |

This seems to be a hot topic in the academic world. Some, like Dr. Maurio Di Pasquel, argue that growth can occur while training, or at least your body makes an effort to repair right then and there. I gather this is why he suggests the use of amino acids while training, something that Poliquin has reccomended as well. However I don't think anyone would contest that the majority of the 'repairen' occurs during sleep. IP: Logged |

muslce grow more at night, however as soon as you damage teh muscle it starts to heal itself, as long as teh muscles aren't being strained, healing will occur whic will lad to growth....however, sleep is teh best time for growth... big-guy IP: Logged |
