Remember to have plenty of cardio machines for the women. They are the majority of the members.

Kevin told me personally that he hated the gym business. TOO FUCKING STRESSFUL, although I would like to open one up myself.

I agree with conan.

Keep a clean gym, friendly and helpful to the "new to working out" crowd.

Gotta have a lot of cardio stuff, most people go to gyms to get rid of fat.

Available trainers are an asset, too. But they'll start showing up.

Your hardcore members will only be about 20% of your membership.

Oh yeh, and a lotta money for equipment, insurance, and bribes for the city council.

Been thinking I'd like to open a gym myself too, lately...

but rotsa ruck, dude!

Depending on your location,Im in NW suburb of Chicago, you need 1500-2000 members to make a very good buck. Its a little pricey here real estate wise, but booming area means more people.I'm not sure about francises,Ive heard good and bad, guess it depends on which one.Unfortunatly Ballys is making a comback.

Look at the demographics that you find yourself in and cater toward that i.e. it does'nt help opening a gym in a suburb that is mainly elderly. Make sure your POSIONING is exceptional, your hours accessible, pricing reasonable and ALL STAFF are qualified.KEEP IT CLEAN!(No needles in the bathrooms etc.) Remember you are catering to peoples egos so expect them to be demanding.
Ensure that you have the neccesary equipment and that it is in good condition. The hours are long, but the rewards are great!!!!
