Well, I wanted to run this platform for awhile before posting anything about it, so here is my thoughts on the new Microsoft incantation.

Well if any of you have experience with Windows NT, then you will like this due to the fact that its security and partitions run very similar to NT, since its all based on NT technology. Its the first commercial platform to use a real high bit encryption security feature.
The net explorer that comes with it is almost identical to IE 5 but a bit quicker browsing capabilities. Its interface is just like other windows so a bit easier than NT
Ive had no problems so far but some buddies of mine have reported having problems getting it to see their sound and video cards on the plug and play feature. I ran a beta version of 2000 about 6 months ago and it wouldnt see my modem, and eventually crashed. But thats the chances taken with betas.
One thing that stands out is its multimedia functions. I must say the new CD player is pretty damn impressive, unlike the old CD player this one will automatically download and save the CD title and track list off the net for you while online.
This windows will be much harder for hacks to slam people with trojan horse programs and other viruses due to partition type of security before only offered by NT.
Im running the 2000 professional edition which I believe to be meant mainly for business. The copyright to this is around 25 grand, but if your lucky like me, just have a buddy burn it for you...cost then: 3$
So far, Im pretty impressed with it, but thats my take, I hope this may help anyone thinking of upgrading.
OH and one more thing, before running a clean install, or upgrading I would recommend running a dual boot with it, so you can test it for all bugs and make sure your hardware is completely compatible with it.
Thats my 2 cents,
Bleed Iron Bros,
WCP

OH yeah, one more thing.
Microsoft has a database on thier website about the compatibility of certain devices with 2000 you can check for sure there.

Primo...
Actually Bro, Ive only heard about this recently. Ive been checking their site out, and I must say its really impressive.
Im downloading their freeware as we speak, in order to check it out.
The one thing that I like about it is that it has plug ins for some default pop3 servers like outlook express and the like to use encryption with them.
PGP is very secure, but as far as hushmail goes, I would say its a little more user freindly.
I do however like how pgp runs their firewalls with integrated virus protection that will scan mail as well as for malicious java, and active x programs.
Im going to run pgp and see what happens, Ill email ya Bro,
Later,
WCP

OH I see what your saying about the roids + 2000...yeah it was out there man...ha..ha..

Thanks for the info bro. I've been contemplating about whether or not to upgrade. I think I will still wait a little while, so they can get some of the kinks out.

One last thing I forgot (like most of you Bros give a monkeys ass)
Ive found that Win2000 will see and utilize 2 processors at a time and up to 1 gig of memory. My buddy mailed me and said hes running two celeron 466's well on it.
Later Bros,

WCP, you are a better man than me; I was
once a computer information science major
prior to pre-med and I had to change that
path real quick....Cobal and C++ just about
killed me and my GPA.

I can show you the path to greatness, but
it is up to you to follow it.

Its just a hobby man,...I love power...and I figured in this day and age with technology the way it is...computers would be as good a thing as any to take on as a hobby.
That type of knowledge is power Ive found man...as far as cobal and C++ go..it confuseds the shit out of me too, I just dick with what I need to work with...

windows 2000 is windows nt5.
but with another name win98 and winnt4 all wrapped together and some xtras and some minus.
what i would like to see is the addition of hear me on this board, and that way we could talk out load and see each other if we must.
and to those who are bashfull then cover your face and show the muscle.
really windows 2000 is a subject of magnitude the likes of which would take up lots of time and ultimately its a matter of preferences. you see when win95 came out almost everyone welcomed it. but when win98 was promised soon and it came late mostly everyone who was using win95 was quite content and used to it, not to mention it was faster than 98. actually if you have version b you really could do without 98.
so now win2000 rears its slicky head and promises promises.
but did you know that most software that runs on 98 will not run properly on 2000?
i am not ready to shell out more cash that way and will ride out 98 for a while longer at least till pentiums are 1500 giggaherts.
what do you think about hear me? its free if you want to include it on this forum.
