Does anyone incorporate plyos like medicine ball training or parachute running into their regimen. IP: Logged |

Yes Sprints are known to increase natural test output a bit - also I do things like box jumps or depth jumps (jumping off of a box and then exploding back up as soon as I hit the ground). It helps to develop the type IIb muscle fibers, and im my experience generally adds power to explosive movements. I don't really know where you were going with your question..... Matt IP: Logged |

I just thought about using them to develop explosive leg strength to help further my gains on the squat. IP: Logged |

in off-season baseball conditioning, we use a basketball court to do our sprinting regime. as for plyo's, we go down and back jumping with one leg down, and other one back. we also go down and back jumping off of 2 legs...forward down, backwards back...remember to keep feet together. and my favorite one is when we face north in the gym, and jump and turn 180 degrees to backwards, and then jump again to righten ourselves...keep feet together and make sure you cross the lines of the floor with every spin-jump that you make!! hope i helped!

Sprinting will drastically increase your squat. Most people fail during the squat becuase of weak hip flexors. Sprints really hit those muscles thourghly. Sprints also work the leg stabelizers. Sprints alone will add some decent girth to your legs. IP: Logged |

I am in total agreement with JonRocks, sprinting tends to improve squat and pull lifts. Hatfield, and Chu have written good books on plyometric drills, as well as E.J. "doc" Kreis. Some of the most advanced training you can do is circuits based on all the various forms of strength (limit, explosive, etc.). I went through some the other day with some athelete/coach friends recently, they are brutal. 5 reps X 80% of 1RM (no rest) Pushup position depth jumps 5-10 With friend holding feet walk on hands (20yrds) (rest then repeat circuit) IP: Logged |
