I thought estrogen was the hormone that induces female pattern fat distribution and gynocemastia and eats up your muscle post cycle?? And progesterone is the one that causes downregulation of natural testosterone production? Can progesterone also cause gyno? Any sites or evidence on this? So far all I know is hearsay. ------------------ the alpha male IP: Logged |

Estrogen and progesterone bind to many of the same tissues though with different receptor sites. They do have similar actions with regards to stimulation of growth of those tissues especially with breast tissue. What we are really talking about is not really progesterone but synthetic PROGESTINS. Progestins like deca and anadrol do cause gyno- they do not as far as I know cause female fat distribution patterns- they do however increase levels of Intramuscular fat. Some of the other side effects from synthetic progestins include; cardiovascular complications, suspected links to uterine and breast cancer, blood clots, insomnia, menstrual irregularities, depression, masculinizing effects, breast tenderness, fluid retention and edema. Most of the progestins are synthesized from progesterone or from another hormone called nortestosterone and are not found in any living forms. Synthetic progestins are not well processed by the body. Their activity is prolonged, creating reactions in the body that are not consistent with natural progesterone. This undoubtedly explains the alarming array of listed warnings, contraindications, precautions, and adverse reactions to progestins, all of which are uncharacteristic of natural progesterone. This Info is from a female progesterone/progestin oriented site however the same contraindications apply- with the exception of the obvious physiological male/ female differences.

Thanks, Macrophage. Out of raw curiosity... this hormone is naturally produced for what purpose? Menstrual cycle in females? ------------------ the alpha male IP: Logged |

progesterone has many functions- one of them is regulating the menstrual cycle- it also mitigates the effects of estrogen in both men and women- it is a natural part of our hormonal system and necessary. However the problem is that these progestins are: A. not progesterone- they are synthetics that cross react with Progesterone receptors B. having different binding affinity C. exist in very large quantities compared to levels of progesterone in a "normal" male. ------------------ IP: Logged |
