Remember your first year of lifting back when you were 16 or so? I remember between the summer after my freshman year of high school to the beginning of football my junior year I went from 5 foot 3 to 5 foot 7... I went from 100 pounds to 150 staying at about 7-8% bodyfat the whole time. My bench went from about 75 to about 225 [THATS 10 LBS PER MONTH], and I threw about 3 inches onto my arms. If I can get a third of that from my first cycle coming up, I'll be happy. Let's hear some other awesome stories from the rest of you guys starting out. IP: Logged |

When I first starting lifting seriously I spent an entire year busting my rear 6 days a week, some times twice a day. I would do countless sets of benches and flys, hours of curling... My gains were so poor that I almost quit. I just couldn't understand what was wrong with me! I was doing exactly what the magazines said to do but it wasn't working!! Then I bought a back issue of MILO... And now, 100 pounds heavier at about the same BF, I can look back and realize what I was doing wrong. IP: Logged |

Are you the real squatter? The Ryan Steakhouse Squatter? If you are, you could probably make yourself a T-shirt that says so and people will ask you for autographs. That story is amazing... I laugh my ass off just thinking about it... no offense. IP: Logged |

My first year was only 4 years ago. It all started cause my size 48 pants were to tight so I went to get some 50's. I held them up and they looked like a tent. I bought a pair of size 36 and left intending to wear them. At that point I was 351 lbs at 32% bf. 1 year latter I was a solid at 10% bf at 245 to 250 and wearing 34 to 36. What a ride that year was! Weight lifting has totally changed my life. I was married but that ended after the weight loss. She said my motive to loss weight was other women...not so. But damn it sure helps now shes gone. Never in my life has anyone looked twice at me, now everyone wants advice. Especially those who saw the changes take place. People who hadn't seen me in a while have NO idea who I am. It's a blast. You guys keep me motivated, even at times like now that I can't lift. (injuries) My Best to You All. IP: Logged |

The only thing that comes to mind when I think back to when I started is CATABOLIC. At the time, I was wrestling for half of the year and on the weightlifting team the other half of the year. I didn't eat correctly while I was weightlifting, and I killed myself when I lost weight (which was mostly muscle) for wrestling. There is no doubt now about what I was doing wrong, but I couldn't figure out why I wasn't gaining weight back then. I am so happy that those days are long gone. Knowledge is power! I first started lifting the summer between my 8th grade and freshmen year of high school. I have'nt looked back since. I was 5'0,200lbs and I ran a 6.8 40 yard dash!! Nobody ever expected me to become a good athlete. I have lifted for 7days a week many times, and I still do sometimes. I am totally in love with it. My best year of lifting improvement was my junior year.My squat went from 300 to 435, my bench from 155 to about 235, and my weight stayed at about 200, but i lost a ton of body fat. My 40yard dash improved by .7sec. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I love that feeling... that feeling of addiction to the gym. The feeling of waiting from the minute after you get out of the shower in the morning until the minute you get into the weightroom. Having an off-day is enough to get me depressed. I suppose it isn't very psychologically healthy to justify your existence by getting a pump, but right now, I don't give a fuck. IP: Logged |

Started lifting when I was 14, 140, I think 5'10- I started lifting because the gym where I practiced Tae Kwon Do was 25$ for lessons and 35$ for lessons and gym membership. when I started working out I could bench 140 on the machine. after a year I weighed 180- growth spurt plus lots of eating(i was not as lean) and could bench 215 free weight- I hate to use bench as a marker for progress but at the time that was the most important aspect of my lifting- my legs were pretty big and strong just dont remember any poundages. by the time I graduated high school (17), I weighed 150, 5'11, 5-6% bodyfat (lost lots of leg size because of knee surgery) and could bench 305 with a pause on flat bench. BTW- all that heavy benching lead to a lot of rotator cuff pain and actually slowed my progress in the gym later- the importance muscular balance and stability is often overlooked- I should know I learned the hard way ------------------ IP: Logged |

i started at 17. i weighed 135lbs 11%bf, i was to afraid to go to the gym cause i thought i didnt belong, i then started reading musclemag int., and muscle & fitness. then i borrowed a video from my brother and learned all the lifts and how to put a program together. within 8 months i was up to 148lbs and 9.5%bf. then i started talking creatine and andro(which didnt help)and started eating a lot better. i got up to 172lb(in my pic on conans page)and 10%bf, about 2years after i began. just started my first cycle and began at 160lb, 7%bf. theres my history. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I started lifting at 15 for basketball and Akido at that point I was 6'0 155 lbs. I kept lifting steady and by seventeen I was at 175lbs. I joined my schools recreational powerlifting team and started watching my diet and taking suppliments. At one point I was uping my bench by 40lbs a month but then I began to encounter tendonites and joint problems. So I quite lifting for a while. But I couldn't stay away for long so after about six months I got back and have never looked backed since. Now I'm 21 and am 195.lbs 7%bodyfat and in the best shape of my life. IP: Logged |

Up until a year ago, I did the typical thing. A few months on, several months off. I just couldn't get commited. It has been 1 year and 4 months since I broke down and made a commitment that has totally changed my life. I committed to bodybuilding and everything has changed. My confidence, self-asteem and especially appearence. I started doing reasearch on "the juice" at that time and I am just now doing my first cycle. That's over a years worth of research before using. I started with a weight of 150lbs @ 5'10". Would you believe 16 months later, 40lbs heavier I also gained 3/4 inch in height. My doc. says it is due to the fact I carry myself with proper posture as opposed to a slumping weak frame before. I tell you, when I look at pictures of myself from a year and half ago, i can't help but thank God that I chose to make that all important commitment. ------------------ IP: Logged |
