I notice absolutely no difference in strength or size when I use protein powder. Do you guys think Whey is a waste of $, or do you think it works? Opinions-

protein powder is great if you don't want any carbs just pure protein, as well it's nice to be able to just make a shake for a meal, it's very conveinient and for that i think it's worth the money

I'm definitely in agreement w/ E2. I know you don't see any major gains w/ protein powder like you may other stuff, but protein is a vital building block for muscle and strength development.

I try and get all my protein from my diet (eggs,etc..) But I still have 2-3 shakes a day. I think it is worth the money, if you eat right too. Also depends on whether or not you have Bill Phillips standing behind you, pumping you up the you know what!j/k (kind of)

It is worth it. I like it when I need a quick protein fix when on the run. Note to mention when you got the stomach growlin' it also helps in calming the acids after a stressed workout.

The whey protein I got is working great, I find it near impossible to get all the protein I need any other way.

I agree with you Les. I'm starting to wonder if "needing" 1-2 grams of protein per pound is medically correct, or if we believe this because that is what the big supplement companies tell us. After all, guys in prison get huge with no supplements at all. Right? Maybe a healthy diet is all you need.

protein powder should only be used by itself when leaning. Meal replacement powders are what you need to be taking. If you are bulking try taking a MRP with a weightgainer in it. And if leaning a MRP by it self or straight protein. Your body needs more than just protein it needs calories, carbs, and yes fat to grow

I use meal replacement drinks (2-3/day) with extra protein added to assure I get enough protein and nutrition on a daily basis, I cant eat huge meals 6 times a day, I would feel like Mr Tortuga. So eat three regular meals with some kind of Meat/Veggie/Carb and three shakes a day. If i dont i start loose muscle and weight.

Oh and remember, those guys in prison just eat/sleep and workout, and if you dont think they get steroids in jail, think again.

While there might be a small minority of inmates with steroids, like less then .01%, that still does not account for the majority of those guys getting huge without "proper" supplementation that supplement companies preach. Even if they were all on steroids, they do still not get the 1 gram per pound of protein that we always here we should consume. Don't you think that is strange?

I read a study (not an article) that the average Joe Needs to consume an average of .75-.85 grams/ lbs of body weight to reatain any mass at all. Also you can shoot all the gear you want but as you train harder(esp. with gear) And you break down that muscle, Protein is the only thing that can be regenerated into new tissue. So as you grow (horizontally)the more protein you need, so you can keep repairing that tissue. That makes it really hard to consume 200-300+ grams a day with just food so I think whey is a good investment. I think cytopro (Cytodyne Technologies) is good stuff, Prolab makes a great protien that's really cheap. Also Prosource is cheap an tastes fucking great. If your feeling low on energy try uping your carbs by 500 grams/day. Its all part of the equation.
