Hey bro, Get the rest, at least 8 hrs, don't go over 10 hrs, drink your protien during the day. Try to get at least 1gm per pound of body weight. I would not take it during your sleep period, if it contains sugars it may interupt your sleep. They say take a couple cat naps during the day if you can, but I don't know about that. It takes time but you will get it down. Life is too short to be small! IP: Logged |

If you are drinking as much water as you should, you will get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. This is the perfect opportunity to have a protein shake. Do this for a few weeks and I guarantee you will see a difference. stay big IP: Logged |

I find that by eating protein when I wake up at night, actually wakes me up. I think that is because my blood sugar rises and raises my metabolism. So I avoid it until I am ready to get up. IP: Logged |

Being all the stupid one can be I did a little experiment, (dont ask me where I got the idea) I ate the whites of five hard boiled eggs without chewing them to much, and when I woke up, I whent to the bathroom, drank some water and threw up to see I had diggested the wites completly... The wites from the hard boiled eggs had not completely been diggested, so that leaves me to think that a little amount of protein had been fed during my sleep. Bump this up if you dont agree with me on this being one of the most stupid ideas Ive had this week. IP: Logged |

NBK actually I aggree with you to a certain extent but lets review Drink raw eggs. (shut the fuck up FDA!) After hundreds of raw eggs without the instance of Salmonella I concluded that either I'm immune or super lucky! Raw eggs because the protein takes even longer to break down(digest). ------------------ IP: Logged |

The problem with eggs is that you shit out some of the protein, hence the invention of Whey shakes. Since your body recovers and repairs itself mostly during sleep, I always thought it made sense to drink a shake before bed. I never had a problem with not being able to sleep, but then again I can take 4 Hydroxycuts and take a nap five minutes later. Must be a clear conscience IP: Logged |

Yes,Dev is rite, I have read that drinking protien shake before bed is not as good as eating say meat or egg protein. your asking why ?, well the drinks get assimilated quicker into the system, which yes(if loaded with sugar)can throw your blood levels outta wack, Meat and eggs, digest must slower giving a steadier protein enrichment throughout the nite. MEAT, ITS WHATS FOR DINNER !!! IP: Logged |

Dumb question here, NBK, but what was the point of not chewing the eggwhites? I mean... cool experiment and all... but... uhhhh... chewing usually happens when eating, you know? IP: Logged |

The protein factory has a nighttime formula which is based a casinate (sp) protein. This was at one time a very popular protein (years ago) but lost favor due to whey's "better" assimilation. What in fact happens is that whey is absorbed quicker, while casinate protein takes much longer to enter the blood stream and is only digested in the small intestine (for the most part) Now this is VERY beneficial if your not going to be eating for the next six/eight hours. As the slower digesting process insures a more constant and even flow of protein is being fed to the muscles. Now it ain't the best tasting, but I'll do one of these on hard workout nights and think it has been worth every nasty drink. Late Lobo IP: Logged |

This may sound idiotic, but I keep a mini-fridge in my bathroom filled with canned tuna. I get up during the night to piss (water intake..) and eat a can. Get in where you fit in. Matt IP: Logged |

in an attempt to answer the most catabolic time would be right when you are working out because you would be tearing micro bits of muscle tissue and even though testosterone levels are rising during the session tissue needs to rest and absorb protein in order to repair itself, but if you want to try turkey as your last meal of the day it is good for that because it has tryptophan or you may be able to use some in supplement form, i haven't been following close lately but the last i had heard it was banned for some reason but it didn't have to do with tryptophan it had to do the way a certain company made it. sleeeeeeeeeeeeeppppp IP: Logged |

How about cottage cheese, or a casein-based protein mixture from protein factory. Both have slower rates of bioabsorption. IP: Logged |

Big Bro if we really dont chew too much on the hard boiled egg, our body has to break it down in the stomach before even starting the digetion process... Isnt it true that an egg based protein drink is abrorbed more quickly than a hard boiled egg for example. Im not telling you I swallow it withought chewing, Im saying Im just not chewing it to much, i.e. only moderate size lupms go down my throat. IP: Logged |

I agree that one of the most crucial time of catobolism is probably right after a work out when your body is just irking to secrete coritisol. I always knock off about 100g of simple sugars and some protein right afterward. As far as sleep goes, I like to sleep all night uninteruppted, so I cut my water intake about 2hours before I go to bed, but I will have a protein drink right before bed, a good protein should be low enough in sugar that it wont effect your sleeping habits anyhow. LOOKING AT THE *NEXT* NUTRITION DESIGNER WHEY PRODUCT(WHICH IS THE ONE I USE)IT HAS ONLY ONE GRAM OF SUGAR PER SCOOP, WHICH IS = TO 17 GRAMS OF PROTEIN AND THAT ISNT A LOT OF SUGAR IF YOU CONSIDER THAT ONE CUP OF 1% MILK HAS ABOUT 12 GRAMS OF SUGAR, WHICH MAKES ME WONDER WHY SOME PEOPLE SAY "DRINK SOME WARM MILK AND YOULL SLEEP BETTER!" OH WELL, IT DOES YOUR BODY GOOD? IP: Logged |
