I was wondering if it really works. Body Opus advocates carbing up during the weekends and The Atkin's Diet does not. I know B.O. is tailored for bodybuilding, but still, the recommended daily intake of protein is far less than the conventional - 1 to 2 grams per pound of bodyweight - rule. My question really, is, if there will be any lost of muscle mass on the ketogenic diet? Thanks anyone! ------------------ IP: Logged |

Yah man, I've cyclic keto for as long as 2 months at a time, kinda a mix between bodyopus and lyle McD's diets. 75% fat, 25% protein, calories set at maintenance level using 9 cal per fat gram (instead of 7 cal burned as ketones). Atkin's diet is not as good as either of these. I tried to avoid too much saturated fat, and my 6 daily meals consisted of a shot glass of peanut oil and some whey or soy, maybe an ECA or multivitamin. No carbs until carb up. In 8 weeks I lost 19 pounds of fat while gaining 1.5 lbs of muscle according to underwater weighing, without juicing. So hell yeah it works. Isn't the most pleasant thing though. I found that I get slightly better results with a 7 day keto phase instead of a 5 day. Get huge (and lean). Peace PS The protein is low to keep your body from using it to make glucose. Our host George Spellwin has some interesting ideas for incorporating other drugs into the diet. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Dr.Atlas (edited February 07, 2000).] IP: Logged |

I tried body opus for a month. It didn't work for me, but here's why. I ate more than I ever did on any other diet. I was so damn hungry all the time, I would stuff my face with any thing jars of olives, pork, greasy nasty steaks, fat still on em, anything. I was ravenous. I was just always hungry. My total calories went up big time. This diet is hard man. Be prepared! IP: Logged |

I use it regularly to strip fat after a bulk cycle. I prefer the targeted ketogenic diet where you consume simple carbs after workouts to replentish glycogen and there is no week end carb up. IP: Logged |
