I can't seem to do it. There's too much resitance on the pluger to pull it back. I get the needle in my butt (upper, outer quadrant) and then try to draw the plunger back... I end up moving the needle all around inside my ass (youch!) trying to pull the plunger back. And then I can't seem to pull it hard enough because there's a vacuum. So far, I've never hit a vein, but I'm wondering how you guys do it if you've got a thick, oil-based 'roid and a hard-to-move plunger? ------------------ IP: Logged |

I have trouble sometimes, too. Just pull back a little bit until you see some bubbles, then you know that it's okay. IP: Logged |

Love the haiku, but I spent 4 years studying english lit in college. I keep finding differing opinions regarding drawing back, some say yea and some say nay. When I go to the doc for shots they never draw back, I asked a nurse once and she said it wasn't really necessary if you knew what you were doing and weren't injecting into an area with alot of veins, like glute or shoulder. Dont worry, thats actually a good sign, if you were in a vein, the blood would surge back into the plunger with very little pressure. So if you pull back a little and no blood comes into the plunger, then you are ok. IP: Logged |

if you use 1.5 pin and are in the muscle area you would have passed any existing vein so even if you nick one the pin would continue on to the muscle.

I have never pulled back and have never had a problem. Maybe I'm just lucky. "That which does not kill you can only make you STRONGER!!" IP: Logged |

better safe then sorry folks... tiny bubbles means your in muscle tissue and thats a good thing... blood means veinage and well, see my post about injecting into veins to see what can happen... the verdict is still out on it... IP: Logged |
