been on this keto high fat diet for a month i turned the stix mild purple once for a few days..then i think i over did soy protein and slipped out of keto and haven't been able to get back since then ..i do 30-45 cardio a day -weight 3-4 x wkly. any ideas and how to acheive keto. and supplement ideas beside insulin. i am close to 80% fat.in my diet..i have tried 2500 plus calories and 1200 calories didn't see any effect..i actaully have gotten harder and put on what appears to be new muscle which was hard for me to believe from just a diet modification. but i haven't dropped any weight and my abs are sorta plateaued in terms of sharpness..i crave a six pac..any ideas...on making this diet work..??? the amount of fat is a little high 70% is more traditional- your carbs should be very low- but since you did not say- perhaps that means that you are not watching carbs as closely as you should be. Most experts- and I am not one because I dont like ketotic diets- say that 10g of carbs is all you should have per day. You would be suprised how easy it is to go over this if you dont watch it- if you are not getting purple on your strips then this is probably the reason ------------------ IP: Logged |

Ok, first of all, you will be fine with your fat right where it is.We used to have a 3:1 fat to protein ratio, but its up to you...the ratio doesnt matter. You just do not want to go over 30 grams of carbs a day. Make sure you are counting your carbs. I think you are relying on the ketostix too much at this point. I'm willing to bet you the reason you arnt seeing ketones on your urine is because while doing all the cardio you are buring them up. Once you burn them up it may take you a while to get enough back to show. Ketosis is ketosis. dont worry about the color, i sometimes dont get over trace, and my wife gets hers dark purple. This also has a direct relationship with the amount of water you drink, i know shes not getting a whole gallon..ggrrrr. the more you drink, the less ketones you will see because they will be diluted. Just dont worry about the test too much and back off the cardio some. if your doing it everyday you are doing it WAY to much. As far as your weight loss stoppage,im willing to bet your thyroid is downregulated due to low calories and too much cardio. check your temp tomorrow morning before rising and if its below normal (98) begin to eat maintainance calories for two weeks to bring it back up. you should then be good to go for another 4-5 weeks of dieting. hope this helps, peace DAWG IP: Logged |

i was having the same problem. i used insulin to get into ketosis. the strips were not showing ketones because i was so active that they were all burning as fuel. the strips only show ketones not being used. also you might try cutting way back on the cardio, your putting you body into starvation. i dont know how big you are bit 1200 cal a day will not do for you what you want. find out yout amr and cut back a few hundred cals. dude, this is a strict diet, you have to really watch the carbs, watch howmuch toothpaste you put on your toothbrush, wipe the counter down before you cut your meat and cheese, dont put hand lotion on...i may sound like a psycho but carbs are the enemy while on this diet and they lurk everywhere. try some thyroxine, i am taking 25mg a day and i feel all hot all the time, this will burn more calories with a higher cal intake, trust me....eat more!

your welcome bro. the diet is more effective than a normal low fat diet because there are no insulin spikes except during the carb up. when on a normal diet i get light headed and feel like ass, on this one i feel great. as fat as weight loss, you should be able to get 2 lbs per week if you do it right. the problem is most dont. there is a lot more to consider when it comes to dieting than most look into. keep in mind, after your done you must either go on a low fat type diet or stay on this one to maintain what youve done. you never lose fat cells, and they will expand after some time. Bod, The MAIN problem here is fat shrinkage is SIMPLE and people make it hard! it all relys on basic principals, and if you follow them and are patient the results will come!! I am going to cut and paste a post I wrote about ketogenic diets on the ROCK (my home). I think people here will benifit from it as there is much confusion. I have done TONS of research on the subject and have talked with Lyle Mcdonald and the late Dan Duchaine on the subject repeatedly. I hope this helps! IP: Logged |

Listen to the big dog he knows his shit. Also the diet seems to be most effective for 4-6 weeks, then it is a good idea to eat slighty above maintanace calories for 7-10 day in a isocaloric (33/33/33) or zone (40/30/30) fashion to keep your thyroid operating properly. Keeping track of your morning temp gives you a good idea when it is time to do this. IP: Logged |
