What is the biggest lift you have seen in the gym?(I don't mean one that your Uncle Billy Bob saw I mean one that you either saw or did yourself. The best I think I have seen was a 405 close grip incline bench for 6 reps, or perhaps more impressive the 6 one arm deadhang chinups my friend Wayne did. IP: Logged |

Well, I've trained with the masters world record holder a few years back. (not current) Let me refrase that... I assited in loading and unloading the damn bar and every once and a while when it was his light day, I'd work in Ah, the good ol days. What I thought was most impressive was his one legged leg presses. To this day I use them in my routien. Course there was the 40lb rear delt flyes. Ouch Late Lobo p.s. Any one ever see Ed Coan lift... freaky man... just plain freaky! [This message has been edited by WarLobo (edited January 28, 2000).] IP: Logged |

I work with volunteer training for the special olympics powerlifting team (local). Anyway at the last big Olympics held down here this kid, I dont remember his name, broke all records with a 240lb bench, a 325lb. squat and somewhere around a 450lb dead lift. Not impressive enough? He stood 5'7" and weighed in at 111lb. I was in awe. Totally incredible. IP: Logged |

495 for five sets of 5- K. Shepard- who still holds the under 23 powerlifting record of 535 at 198. HE's almost 40 now but I understand that he is going to be competing in masters bodybuilding in the 240lb range- BTW he is about 5'5. hey 2THICK when I was seventeen and 5'11 I pressed 305 on the flat and I only weighed 148- of course I should have wieghed around 170 but I had had knee surgery and my legs were tiny. THIS heavy pressing MIGHT have something to do with the rotator cuff pain I used to have. ------------------ IP: Logged |

MR> RENFRO WELL I AM GOING TO HAVE TO REPLY TO THIS ONE- I WENT to CU during DARIAN HAGANS CAREER AND he never came close to pressing 540 on bench. BEN NICHOLS is the only player that I know of to have pressed 540 while playing for CU- he was also 6'6 310-320lbs at the time- with a bench shirt. though MAD DOG, the strength coach could press 600. this being said I understand how heavy 3 maybe 4 plates looks when you are in seventh grade. WCP I actually was not responding to your post but I would like to say that those are very impressive lifts- when I was in highschool one of the special education students was the strongest on bench and leg press in my entire school. Additionaly I would like to add that those people who are involved in the furtherance of sport for handicapped and/or disavantaged people are some of the true heroes of sports. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Yo Macro, thanx bro, I think that there are alot of us that can use our experience to help those who never had chance nor choice in what their physical or mental disadvantages were. I know this may sound superficial, but when I started working with the special olympics, I drew alot of interest in bodybuilding from alot of people, many of which I started training. I think when people saw that I wasnt just some meathead, and actually cared, they realized that big guys with muscles werent all dickhead bullies. Oh and lets not forget that its those kids who are the real heros..far much more courageous than the urban fatass couch potato, who has complete choice of how he/she wants to look or hell speak for that matter. Hey WCP, I have been to many powerlifting meets with the owner/editor of powerlifting USA (mike lambert) and I would have to say that the happiest/most excited lifters were the lifters at the special olympics meets. They could care less about someone lifting more than them, they are there to have a great time -- no attitudes there. By the way, I once had the priviledge to meet Ken Lain (world bench press record holder at one time),and let me say that he is one HUGE motherfu**er. DreamingBig IP: Logged |

I trained at a small gym and live in a hole in the wall town and we had many gret lifters. We had several world record holders in powerlifting. One got best lifter at the worlds in england. Seen him squat 900 below paralell. Had a women that benched 300. Also, had a couple over a 500 bench. My friend was a total freak, he could gain and stay lean no matter how he trained or wht he ate. We had an in house powerlifting meet and he was doing a bodybuilding contest in two days so he was depleted and i thought would be week as a puppy. Anr yawy they talked him into lifting in the meet and he deadlifted 615 at a 182 pounds while being carb depleted at just under 5 percent bodyfat. kpumpin [This message has been edited by kpumpin (edited January 29, 2000).] IP: Logged |

I recently worked out with Gunter Schlierkamp when he was guest posing for the Mr. Utah. It was his "light day" and he was benching 425X15 for 6 sets. I don't really recall him hitting any super heavy weights for anything else that day though. Nice guy, but he posed to a Celine Dion song... IP: Logged |

not really- endurance is different for every body- I know a lot of guys that can hit 225 for one that cant get 135 for 20 and I know guys that can hit 225 for one and 135 for 30 even 40 reps. A friend of mine saw a guy press 225 for 58 reps but his max wasnt that high- i really dont remeber but its just to make a point. it all has to do with the body type, tendon strength, training methods, neurophysiological differences. BTW- I hit 225 for 20,18,17,12 on incline and 315 for 10,10,8. I dont do flat it hurts my rotator cuff except with light wieghts 225 for 5 sets of 20- medium speed reps though- no pauses at the bottom. rep speed is also another big factor. form too. ------------------ IP: Logged |
